Bloom Explosion Rose Garden 2022

These are my first roses I've ever grown. When we moved into our home almost nine years ago there were a few roses in the rose garden area and several around the property that we relocated to the rose garden area. We needed to put in new retaining walls and a new pathway and started our collection of rose bushes, I'm up to 23 right now. Spring is my favorite time for the rose garden, all the roses all start blooming pretty much all together and its just an amazing sight.

During the pandemic and the shut down of non essential workers I found myself with no job to go to. I have been a hairstylist since 1985 and have never been off work for so long. I was so grateful to have our garden and roses to keep me busy.

Our property is about an acre and the roses are located a few levels down our terraced yard. One of my favorite things to do is to go down to the rose garden once its cooled off in the evening and deadhead and cut roses to bring into the house. We also have goats and sheep and they love the occasional rose petal for a snack.

This is my little buddy Oliver.

It's taken me a few years to not be so scared to cut them back in the winter. I've learned that its virtually impossible to kill them. I showed my friend a photo when I cut them back this year and she told me she thought I had ruined them.

Below I have included a few pictures of my prized blooms from this season.

I love the variety of roses I have been able to collect. My husband and I love to go Ragen Nursery in Union City, California and pick out new colorful rose bushes. The only problem is I am running out of room to plant them.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I was never a fan of roses until my wife showed me the beauty in them.
