Growing Basil on the Balcony at Home with Hydroponics

Hello everyone,
How are you all? I hope you are in good condition like the news from me this time. Many things happened this week in a fairly short time, especially in my hydroponic mini garden. They have been great to grow and I'm quite happy with where they are now.

I've been spending a lot of time in my mini garden lately, for one thing, it makes the basil plants on the balcony on the second floor of my house grow well. Had some arrangements with a friend as he will be taking some of his basil plants to harvest this week. he did an experiment with basil and I provided the stock for him.

There are very many basil growing in hydroponics, they are very good and healthy, even without pests and difficulty to grow. I know that this basil is very easy to grow, however, I only plant it if there is an opportunity or an appointment with buyers. Of course this is all by request and I enjoy the process.

Usually I grow lettuce on the second floor of my house, but, some mice like to eat basil leaves, so I mixed basil and lettuce in this batch. You know, lettuce is not very popular with mice, I don't know why. Often the bok choy and mustard greens, which rats like to eat, are very different from lettuce. That's why, for almost a year we have only planted a few pak choys, only for our own food.

By the way, story about lettuce, I also seeded and cared for lettuce in this batch. quite a bit because the price was not good, and there was also a request for kale for a friend too. So, lettuce only has a few dozen slots. It seems to be very delicious eaten with grilled meat, like the Korean food enjoyed with kimchi.

The process of planting lettuce is indeed very difficult compared to planting bok choy, however, it all depends on the location. In my area, mice are very numerous and it is very difficult to get rid of them. I've made a lot of mouse traps and they are less effective when the mice start to get too many and disturb some of our hydroponics. I even once gnawed on some of the Styrofoam that I used as a hydroponic growing medium. That's very annoying.

This time the water spinach also lived very well, in fact it grew very perfectly, without thiolation and without premature yellowing of the leaves. It's very valuable, we will only harvest about 10 kg this time. This was also requested by a friend who will supply kale at supermarkets that provide hydroponic and organic vegetables. They really helped me quickly to keep our hydroponics filled without a long delay.

Apart from that, I am also in the process of making seeds from green vegetable seeds. Can you guess what vegetables will be in the next batch this time? there are 3 baskets that are very full of rockwool which is already slightly overgrown with green moss. There are also some seeds that have emerged on the surface, such as bean sprouts, but are 1-2mm in size.

Hopefully they can grow very well, with minimal failure in the seeding process and they can grow quickly without problems.

You have a wonderful garden. I didn't know that rats eat leafy veggies too. Here, they usually go after root crops like potatoes.

Anyway, it sounds like you are going to have a steady market for water spinach :) Congrats! Hope your seeding will be successful. I wonder what they are👀
