Having apple tree in my field means easy access to such deliciousness but when it comes to mentainance, uptake of fruit tree a great hard work is required.
Pruning is one of them.
Pruning a fruit tree means cutting young shoots, buds and removing of selected parts of a fruit tree.
Like all trees apple tree every year put on new growth means new shoot develops and grow. When it comes to pruning spotting new growth becomes important.
WHY YOU NEED TO PRUNE:
- It removes dead branches
- Improve air circulation so that the incidence of pest and disease can be lessened
- Open canopy provide larger and healthier friut.
- To much shading is bad for the tree.
WHEN TO PRUNE YOUR APPLE TREE?
Best time to prune your apple tree is between late winter or early spring while the tree is dormant , before active growth.
PRUNING TOOLS:
Garden scissors
Loppers
Saw
Safety glasses
Gloves
WHAT TO DO WITH PRUNED BRANCHES?
You have to collect them and put them away from your apple tree and keep them in an open space in your field.
And the best way is to burn them so that your no disease can spread from the death branches to healthy tree
WHAT TO DO AFTER PRUNING?
You need to spray your apple tree with insecticides and pesticides.
Apply paste on the large cuts in your tree so that the apple tree remain healthy and recover fast.
