My little green space

I remember my first publication in this community. On that occasion I showed photos of a garden that was not mine and of some plants that, although I liked them very much, had not been planted by me. At that time, despite not having a plot of land of my own and living in a flat, I somehow decided to grow my own plants.

From that moment on I decided to plant in pots or in whatever containers I could find, choosing plants that were also useful to me and that I could use. I started with an oregano plant which, although very easy to plant, was not so easy at first. I had several seedlings, but almost none of them survived. Of course, each species needs individual care, and perhaps I didn't know how to care for it in the right way. However, as soon as the small surviving oregano seedling started to grow and sprout, the desire and enthusiasm to continue planting and expanding my little inner garden also began to grow in my mind.

The next thing I was given were some rosemary sprigs. They were given to me by my sister who has several of these plants in her garden and uses them to flavour her food. I love rosemary, as its aroma is very intense and its flavour gives a special touch to food.

Rosemary was the second thing I planted, first in a small pot and as it grew I transplanted it into a slightly larger pot. I am proud to say that the rosemary has grown beautifully, and I use it frequently to season my food. I especially like it in bean stews.

Next I really wanted to plant basil. It is another plant that I love for its flavour and pleasant aroma. It took a while for that desire to materialise and suddenly I had not one, but three basil seedlings to plant. I found them by chance in a coffee shop I visited. At the entrance of the place there was a big bed with lots of basil plants, and although I don't know if it was the right thing to do, I plucked three and took them with me. Since then I have three beautiful plants on my balcony. Recently one of them started to flower. I had no idea that this could happen and I was very happy to see the little mauve flowers.

Next to the oregano I also planted a mint plant. I took it from a big bush in the garden of my building and planted it without much hope that it would grow, as I didn't know if I had done it the right way. But to my surprise it has grown a lot and has even flowered.

My sister who has many plants in her garden, also gave me a small pot with two plants that I think are related, as both are adapted to survive in arid climates with little water, one is a cactus and the other I know as marble flower and is a succulent. However, I think the spines of the cactus prick the leaves of the marble flower as it has them tucked in, as if protecting itself from getting hurt.

The next thing I am going to plant is pepper. I already have the seeds separated and drying in the sun. I will sow them in two or three days. It will be the first time I grow a plant from seed. I am sure they will grow as nice as the others.

In this little pot I got as a present I'm still not sure what I'm going to put in it, but I'm sure I'll think of something nice.

So far this is my little green space, which will continue to grow with time. I hope you liked it and I welcome any suggestions.

Cheers and see you next time 🌱🌿🌱
