Reports of a conversation with my mother about her garden.
THE STORY
The garden at my mother's house was the most beautiful thing in the world, in the distance, you could see beautiful flowers passing over the walls and gate bars. It was something enviable, but behind so much beauty there was an endless work routine, its daily maintenance left the place clean and organized.
Today, unfortunately I cannot say the same, something happened, the vigor of the plants disappeared, many withered, the vast majority died and even in the face of this setback, she never gave up. He changed the soil, bought new plants, started the whole process over again and after 2 weeks they all withered and died again, but this time it was different, the problem was discovered and it's called a cat. The neighborhood cats decided to frequent my mother's area and literally destroy her garden with their claws, urine and feces.
It's difficult to solve a problem of this magnitude, the outside area of my mother's house was open, the gates had bars with openings onto the street. She did everything in her power, researched every way to avoid the presence of cats, but nothing worked.
Her much-loved garden was destroyed again and the cats began sleeping on the chairs outside the house and causing damage. She was forced to destroy something she loves so much and close the entire front of the house, leaving only a humble area in front of her home designated for plants.
SHE DIDN'T GIVE UP
Her youth was spent in nature, her spent a large part of his childhood working in agriculture, I don't know if this had an influence, but my mother decided to transform her backyard into an area full of plants and flowers. At first everything was going well, but the soil seemed to lack nutrients and the plants lacked vigor. She fertilized the entire area, but the emergence of insects, pests and once again felines ended up degrading much of what was planted.
Currently, she tries to create plants in pots, but it is not the same thing, their growth is impaired, in addition to other factors. In a new attempt, she was building an area to plant vegetables, but again it didn't work out, she woke up in the morning with animal feces in the middle of your planting, and was forced to destroy everything up. She did not complete the place and was forced to leave the area full of bricks and items so that the blessed cats would not leave their surprises there.
A POSSIBLE SOLUTION: HYDROPONICS
Everything seemed without solution, but visiting the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) I discovered hydroponics and brought it as a beacon to save my mother's backyard. Since the area's garden was lost, let's at least try to save the yard.
Initially she didn't like it, as it's something new and something she's never done, but I showed her some videos and said I would help whenever possible and she was excited about the idea of trying. "I don't know if it will work, but the garden is already lost, there's nothing left to lose"
WHAT IS HYDROPONICS? It is a way of creating plants without the need for land, just with water and nutrients. At University I received a lot of explanation about this form of cultivation, however, it is focused on planting and selling products. In our case, we want to try something different, using this method in floriculture. "Before anyone asks, the planting will be done in pipes."
I don't have experience in the area, neither does my mother, but we have the willpower to try. If everything goes well, in about 2 or 3 months I will post something about the subject and experiences in the process.

As pessoas estão acostumadas a postar jardins lindos, raramente se vê um jardim com problemas, mas essa é uma realidade presente na vida humana, neste post destaco um problema em um jardim inicialmente lindo que está lutando para recuperar sua beleza, mesmo que seja em outra área.
Relatos de uma conversa com minha mãe sobre seu jardim.
A HISTÓRIA
O jardim da casa da minha mãe era a coisa mais linda do mundo, ao longe dava para ver lindas flores passando pelos muros e grades do portão. Era algo invejável, mas por trás de tanta beleza havia uma rotina de trabalho sem fim, sua manutenção diária deixava o local limpo e organizado.
Hoje infelizmente não posso dizer o mesmo, algo aconteceu, o vigor das plantas sumiu, muitas murcharam, a grande maioria morreu e mesmo diante desse revés ela nunca desistiu. Trocou o solo, comprou plantas novas, recomeçou todo o processo e depois de 2 semanas todas murcharam e morreram de novo, mas dessa vez foi diferente, o problema foi descoberto e se chama gato. Os gatos da vizinhança decidiram frequentar a área da minha mãe e literalmente destruíram o jardim dela com suas garras, urina e fezes.
É difícil resolver um problema dessa magnitude, a área externa da casa da minha mãe era aberta, os portões tinham grades com abertura para a rua. Ela fez tudo que estava ao seu alcance, pesquisou todas as formas de evitar a presença de gatos, mas nada funcionou.
Seu querido jardim foi destruído novamente e os gatos começaram a dormir nas cadeiras do lado de fora da casa, causando danos. Ela foi obrigada a destruir algo que tanto ama e fechar toda a frente da casa, deixando apenas uma humilde área na frente de sua casa destinada às plantas.
ELA NÃO DESISTIU
A juventude dela foi passada na natureza, ela passou grande parte da infância trabalhando na agricultura, não sei se isso influenciou, mas minha mãe decidiu transformar o quintal dela em uma área cheia de plantas e flores. No início tudo ia bem, mas o solo parecia carente de nutrientes e as plantas careciam de vigor. Ela fertilizou toda a área, mas o surgimento de insetos, pragas e mais uma vez felinos acabou degradando grande parte do que foi plantado.
Atualmente ela tenta criar plantas em vasos, mas não é a mesma coisa, o crescimento delas fica prejudicado, além de outros fatores. Em uma nova tentativa, ela estava construindo uma área para plantar hortaliças, mas novamente não deu certo, ela acordou de manhã com fezes de animais no meio de seu plantio, e foi obrigada a destruir tudo. Ela não concluiu o local e foi obrigada a deixar a área cheia de tijolos e objetos para que os abençoados gatos não deixassem ali suas surpresas.
UMA SOLUÇÃO POSSÍVEL: HIDROPONIA
Tudo parecia sem solução, mas visitando a Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB) descobri a hidroponia e trouxe como farol para salvar o quintal da minha mãe. Já que o jardim da área foi perdido, vamos pelo menos tentar salvar o quintal.
Inicialmente ela não gostou, pois é algo novo e que ela nunca fez, mas mostrei alguns vídeos para ela e disse que ajudaria sempre que possível e ela ficou animada com a ideia de tentar. “Não sei se vai dar certo, mas o jardim já está perdido, não há mais nada a perder”
O QUE É HIDROPONIA? É uma forma de criar plantas sem necessidade de terra, apenas com água e nutrientes. Na Universidade recebi muitas explicações sobre essa forma de cultivo, porém, ela é voltada para o plantio e venda de produtos. No nosso caso, queremos tentar algo diferente, utilizando este método na floricultura. “Antes que alguém pergunte, o plantio será feito em tubulações”.
Não tenho experiência na área, nem minha mãe, mas temos força de vontade para tentar. Se tudo correr bem, daqui a uns 2 ou 3 meses postarei algo sobre o assunto e experiências no processo.

I really appreciate that you discuss the struggles to maintain a garden over time! Sometimes people tend to focus on t=just the beautiful aspect of a landscape or gardening in general but, both sides are important to discuss. All the information about hydroponics is very interesting too!
Estou pesquisando sobre hidroponia, é algo muito interessante, não sei se vai funcionar nos planos da minha mãe, mas vamos tentar.

A family member said it could be the evil eye, but I don't believe in such things. The biggest problem for her destroying the garden in front of the house was the cats, feces and urine every morning. They were starting to do the same on the chairs.
The backyard garden is not going well, because the ground is very hard, we can't solve it. It looks very strange in pots and vases, I'm going to try hydroponics, I've already bought 2 complete kits. It will be my first experience with this, researching plants that can be grown in addition to vegetables.
