Very detailed education my Bro! I agree with you, most plantation crops need pruning. Over here for instance, Cocoa is commonly grown. Farmers need to prune all the mistletoe which is plant parasite to cocoa. Through my search, most cocoa farmers leave trees to serve as canopy for the cocoa crops at juvenile stage in order to grow.

The pruning was, in some cases, for maintenance, such as the vine and some garden plants.
In other cases, such as fruit trees, it was necessary since the pests (white mealybug) had attacked them a lot and there was no other way out. Luckily they have recovered well and have already begun to bear the first fruits after having flowered with very little rain.
