GARDENING WITH THIS RAINY DAYS!
A pleasant day, Hiver's! This is KhaY, and it's my first time posting a blog in this community, which is the Hive Garden.
Now, join me in exploring and sharing my experience.
We know that what's best for our world is the care and appreciation of the things around us. I loved gardening, especially when it came to vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
As I scroll through this community, I always enjoy reading different kinds of blogs about gardens. I was amazed at their different abilities and strategies for making and caring for crops.
I always thought, What if I'd try sharing our beautiful and simple garden within this community? And here I come, though! I really can't resist sharing it with you all.
We've been working on a vacant lot behind our house, clearing the space and making it suitable for planting. Unfortunately, I didn't capture the process of building this amazing trellis, but it's made of bamboo and nylon. It's incredibly sturdy and perfect for supporting our growing string beans.
I know this trellis is not easy to make. I salute the one who made this and it is very good to support the string beans when it grows.
We've also been lucky with the weather as the rainy days have been great for helping the seeds grow. The soil in our garden is rich and fertile, which is perfect for our plants. After the rain, we planted string bean seeds and applied some organic fertilizer, specifically rice husk ash.
By the way, for those who are wondering, rice husk ash is a great source of carbon and when used as compost, it can significantly improve the soil's water and nutrient retention capacity, among other benefits.
As an update, here are the string beans after 5 days. They've grown so fast. Why string beans? They are a fast-growing vegetable that sells well in the market. Here in the Philippines, we call them "Sitaw" in Tagalog.
Sitaw or string beans are just one of 130 different varieties of green beans. Though often mistaken as the same, there are several kinds of green beans worldwide that originate from one plant family.
One of my favorite green dishes is Sitaw or string beans, especially when cooked with pork. What's your favorite way to enjoy them?
I'm really excited about watching the string beans grow abundantly and thrive. Planting not only provides us with food but also entertains us. It's amazing how planting around us can help the environment flourish and become a greeny ecosystem once again.
We also have a lovely little flower garden. It's so delightful to look at and brings a sense of peace. It's not just about vegetables; flowers play a crucial role in making our environment beautiful."
Let's make room in our hearts to nurture and appreciate those around us because our actions affect us all.
I hope you enjoy reading about our gardening journey as much as I enjoy sharing it with you!
In my hometown, we're planting the string beans in the dike of the rice paddy so it could be given fertilizers along with the rice. It's a different variety, I don't know what it is called but it doesn't grow longer nor needs trellis for support.
And, same with you, I like it cooked with pork as adobo. 😉
OMG, that's nice and some kind of unique variety manang. Is the string bean pretty short or long nang?
Hoping I could go back to BH soon and bring you some string beans manang😊
