The vegetables and fruits that I will be showing you are full of nutrients that are good, to have a healthy and amazing body shape. This is the reason why I am sharing this blog as well to encourage young people to eat more nutritious food in order to have a healthy body.

Eating vegetables and fruits is the most important way to achieve a good lifestyle. Being healthy means that you are capable of taking care of yourself. That's why my family have decided to grow more vegetables and fruits so that we don't need to buy from the market and to save money as well.

I and my family benefit more in growing our own food aside from not spending a lot of money for goods is that we can also eat fresh and more nutritious dish from our backyard garden. It us more easy to get and harvest.

Growing Tomatoes

I don't know if tomatoes are considered as a fruit or a vegetable but I like putting this in every dish I eat. I love the fact that this plant is easy to grow and harvest.
IMG_20240110_110713.jpg

The growing duration of tomatoes doesn't take to long maybe it grows fast because my father really tale a good care of growing this plant.

IMG_20240114_110338.jpg

We didn't actually by seedlings in growing this. My father just extracted the seeds from the tomato we bought from the market.

IMG_20240114_082631.jpg

From those seedlings, he planted it by the pot that has a plant growing already. He said that it's okay as it doesn't occupy the roots since it's still not mature yet.

After a week the seedlings are started growing. We transfered the sprouts from the side edge of our backyard. For 2 months the plants are finally bearing tomatoes.

Look how plump and big the tomatoes are! Now, we can eat many tomatoes as we can. It has been said that this plant is rich in vitamin c and potassium which is good for our heart and brain.

Corned Beef with Tomatoes

Since we've harvested many tomatoes I've decided to add it on my corned beef to male it more healthier and more delicious. I also add minced onion springs that my father also planted.

IMG_20240114_124017.jpg

After that I seasoned it with salt and pepper. I also put an egg to thicken the consistency of the dish. Then I sauteed it for about 8 minutes until it is cooked.

The corned beef with tomatoes are delicious! Aside from its nutritional ingredients, it also taste good. It's a perfect meal for lunch!

Mini Onion Spring

Aside from tomatoes we also grows onion spring. Onion spring is a very versatile plant. Here, in the Philippines it is a very oriental ingredients that we commonly use in sauteing every dish we will cook.

It adds a distinct aroma and flavor to the food. We also use this in cooking omelettes, soups, and marinating raw meat. This is a very must have vegetable that you should in your garden as well.

Onion spring aren't that hard to plant. It even grows in water but for us since we are planting a big portion of this, we grow it on a soiled-based area.

For me, when I cook, I like garnishing or sprinkle some minced spring onions on my food because it adds more flavor to the dish that I'm eating and it also makes my food visually appealing.

The bottom stalk of this plant can also be substituted as an onion especially now that onions are slightly pricey in the market, we use the stalk of this plant instead of scallions. In this way you can save up money when you are planting or growing your own food

Lemon Grass

We planted this plant because it also has many custom in cooking. The stalk can be added on making tinola (chicken soup) it gives an aroma and gingery flavor to the broth.

Lemon grass also has many beneficial and healing substance that can be used as a treatment for sore throat and cough.

IMG_20240110_111042.jpg

This is the reason why my parents are growing lemon grass because we are used to adding this as one of the ingredient every time we're cooking broth or soup.

So that we don't also have to ask our neighborhood for a stalk of this plant, we just planted our own in the yard.

Tinolang Isda
One recipe that we can cook through this three vegetable ingredients is tinolang isda. It's basically a fish soup that is a very traditional dish that we always eat especially during cold days and is usually paired with rice. We eat this type of food usually every dinner.

The tomato and the lemon grass adds a balanced taste to its broth while the spring onion leaves gives an umami and savory flavor to the dish.

IMG_20240115_194314.jpg

I really love this recipe aside from its delicious taste, the ingredients are also easy to harvest since we have a lot of the ingredients for this dish on our backyard garden. This is a good example of a healthy food!

Calamansi!

IMG_20240110_110953.jpg

This plant is a native variety of citrus fruit. It's more small than a lime because it is hybrid cultivated here. There are many things you can do with this citrus fruit. It also has many benefits like improving one's immunity and reduces sugar level. Look how big and fruitful our calamansi plant!

Since it's already the season for this plant to bear fruits. I've decided to make some of what we have harvest into a juice. I picked some calamansi fruit and washed it up with water.

IMG_20240114_130049.jpg

Then I cut the calamansi into a half and extracted its juice from the fruit.

IMG_20240114_130704.jpg

IMG_20240114_131237.jpg

After that I've putted brown sugar to the calamansi extract and combined it together with water. You can add more sugar for your desired sweetness. This is a perfect drink for a hot weather!

Some of the vegetables and fruits that we also grows from our garden are sweet potato and native squash.

IMG_20240114_115027.jpg

We plant our own sweet potato so that we will not buy from the market anymore. Sweet potatoes are very tasty when you fried and put some sugar on it. Its leaves can also be cook and combined with tomatoes and vinegar refered or called as "kinilaw" which means eating it raw.

I'm very grateful that we get to grow our own food. It's a very important thing that we should know in cultivating plant-based nutrients like vegetables and fruits because in this way we can help to encourage other people to follow these practices as well in planting there foods.

Until know I'm hoping for a healthy year for everyone! That's all, Thank you for passing by my blog! Until next time! ❤️
