As I told you, I started planting by chance thanks to some chili bell pepper seeds that I threw in my land, but now little by little my garden is growing and I am learning.
A few months ago I wanted to try planting tomatoes, known by the scientific name of Solanum lycopersicum. I placed seeds in a container with substrate, left it in a warm and well ventilated place. After a few weeks the tomato seedlings began to grow and I was amazed.

Since they were a bit messy and there were a lot of them, I moved the ones I saw were the strongest to pots, the others I waited until they were stronger to transfer them to the ground.
The wonderful thing about this plant is that it does well in a garden or pot.

An important point is to place near the stem of the bushes sticks or tutors, which with the help of a rope or thread, will hold it and the future tomatoes.

I began to transplant the seedlings that were still in the pot where they germinated. I opened holes in the soil about 20 centimeters deep. At the bottom I placed coconut fiber to make a mulching and substrate.

I made sure to take care of the root of the plant, leaving as much of the soil as possible where it grew so it could be moved to its new home.

Once planted, I added dry leaves to the surface of the soil to keep the plant cool and ensure the success of the transplant.
And so the days went by. I realized that in the place where I had the pots, the plants were exposed to many hours of intense sun. So I decided to change them to prevent them from wilting. I placed them next to the chili bell pepper plants.

The art of planting gives us a wonderful gift and that is to cultivate patience. We dedicate ourselves with love to its care and, overnight, you are surprised by the first flower buds that, if all goes well, will become juicy fruits.

My tomato plant is at this stage. The first flowers are beginning to appear and the first future tomatoes are peeking out. This makes me very happy!😊

Tips:
As for watering, and following the advice of those who have more time in the world of planting, I only moisten the soil, but not the leaves of the plant to prevent fungi from growing or animals from lodging that can do damage. As tomatoes can be affected by excess moisture, the recommendation is to water constantly but in moderate amounts.
Some people advise planting some aromatic plants near the tomato plants, because they keep pests away. I have not done it yet, but I am thinking of planting basil soon.

Desde mi jardín: Plantando tomates y esperando la cosecha
Saludos a todos en la comunidad #hivegarden, encantada de estar nuevamente con ustedes para compartir esto que nos gusta tanto: disfrutar y crecer con nuestra huerta.
Como les comenté, me inicié por casualidad con la siembra gracias a unas semillas de ajíes que lancé en mi terreno, pero ahora poco a poco mi huerta va creciendo y yo aprendiendo.
Hace unos meses quise probar con la siembra de tomates, conocido con el nombre científico de Solanum lycopersicum. Coloqué semillas en un recipiente con sustrato, lo dejé en un lugar cálido y bien ventilado. Al cabo de unas semanas comenzaron a crecer las plántulas de tomate y yo maravillada.

En vista de que estaban un tanto desordenadas y eran muchas, pasé las que vi más fortalecidas a unas macetas, las otra esperé a que estuvieran más fuertes para trasladar a la tierra.
Lo maravilloso de esta planta es que va bien en huerta o en maceta.

Un punto importante es colocar cerca del tallo de las matas varas o tutores, que con ayuda de una cuerda o hilo, lo sujetarán y a los futuros tomates.

Comencé a trasplantar las plántulas que aún estaban en la maceta donde germinaron. Abrí agujeros en la tierra de unos 20 centímetros de profundidad. En el fondo coloqué fibra de coco para hacer un acolchado o mulching y sustrato.

Me aseguré de cuidar la raíz de la planta dejando la mayor cantidad de la tierra donde creció y así pasarla a su nuevo hogar.

Una vez sembrada, agregué en la superficie del terreno hojas secas para mantener fresca la planta y garantizar el éxito del trasplante.
Así fueron pasando los días. Me di cuenta que en el lugar donde tenía las macetas, las plantas estaban expuestas a muchas horas de sol intenso. Así que decidí cambiarlas para evitar que se marchitaran. Las coloqué junto a las matas de ají.

El arte de la siembra nos obsequia un regalo maravilloso y es el cultivar la paciencia. Nos dedicamos con amor a su cuidado y, de la noche a la mañana, te sorprenden los primeros botones de las flores que -si todo marcha bien- se transformarán en jugosos frutos.

En esta etapa va mi tomatera. Comienzan a aparecer las primeras flores y los primeros futuros tomates se asoman. ¡Esto me hace muy feliz!😊

Consejos:
En cuanto al riego, y siguiendo los consejos de quienes tienen más tiempo en el mundo de la siembra, solo humedezco la tierra, más no las hojas de la planta para evitar que crezcan hongos o se alojen animales que puedan hacer daño. Como el tomate puede verse afectado por el exceso de humedad, la recomendación es regar de manera constante pero en cantidad moderada.
Hay quienes aconsejan sembrar cerca de las tomateras algunas plantas aromáticas, porque estas alejan las plagas. Aún no lo he hecho, pero pienso pronto colocar albahaca.

You're way ahead of us with the tomatoes and everything. Our seedlings are still little as it's still cold outside, during the night. Congrats on the watering tip as that is true. If it's raining, the plants get enough water on the leaves anyway.
