It's been Viking Cold out there for the past couple of weeks or so. Especially these last few days. It came after a relatively warm period during which I had turned to doing stuff in the garden that would work well in spring.
Granny March came to remind me winter was not yet over. Today I had to wear gloves again in order to touch metal or hold a branch for a while. I had the occasion to do both.
Well, since it looks it prefers being quite cold for a while, I went pruning trees again. They say cutting wounds are better opened while the trees are dormant. Also, while infections are less likely.
I had no time to do it thoroughly in January or February so I continued this week.
With the old almond tree near the well.
Doing it manually. Lots of dead branches to be cleaned. Lot's of crossing and clustered branches as well.
I hope today's exercises work well for the tree and it regains some vitality this year.
We could also get an almond or two.
Seven new almond trees were planted last year in the same garden. One in the spring and six in the autumn. There's a lot of time before any of them bear nuts, though. I am just trying to keep them alive for now. Focus on the small things.
Meanwhile, I could take care of the shapes of the saplings. While they are still deciding which way they should grow.
Have you?
Peace and Parsley!
