My vegetable-filled rooftop garden

in HiveGarden3 years ago (edited)

My mom told me I was able to eat fresh vegetables when I was 3. It was not about the cooked veggies in my mom's recipe for baby, but the fresh leaves that I picked in the garden and enjoyed with joy. So, you may see how much I have loved eating vegetables since a very young age.
Sadly, growing vegetables in the city is much more challenging than doing it in the countryside where I was born and raised, due to the exorbitant cost of land. I mean you have to be super-rich here, in the city, in order to afford a house with a garden of a similar size to the one in rural areas. So, I decided to turn a spacious dream garden into a 4 x 5 -meter rooftop one. Anyway, I still consider myself to be among the fortunate because I am able to pursue my passion of growing vegetables in the city.
I am going to show you the fruits of my labour over the past 3 months

A mint-family plant

I love growing herbs as they can be used for drinks and saunas. I often put these fresh leaves into a hot cup of a boiled mixture of lemongrass and lemon

Bok choy

Three of them are enough for a garlicky bok choy recipe

Lặc lầy

This type of vegetable is not very common in my country. I was given some seeds from a neighbor and just grew it without much consideration. Some information on the Internet suggests it belongs to the ridge gourd family, and I find they both taste the same.

See how many I harvested last week

You may laugh at me as my tomato tree just produced that much, lol.
It was scorching hot over the last 2 months, making it extremely hard for me to take care of my tomatoes. Anyway, these little fruits really inspired me whenever I went to visit my garden

Sweet basil

I often use sweet basil for different salad recipes and sour soups. It adds a great flavor into my meals

Lettuce

Do you see other types of herbs growing in a hustle in the same pot?

What a happy day!!! I have never thought that I could have them in my home-grown garden

Spring onion

This is just a very small part of spring onion. I can't imagine how my life would be with such a type of veggie. I use it for almost all recipes. Fortunately, all members of my family are fans of it.

How lovely that baby spring onion

Gourd

The only one but in very good shape, lol

Finally, here comes the vedette of my veggies show, the Kale

IMG_8161.JPG
The health benefits of Kale are unquestionable. The thing is growing it is not easy in my city is really difficult, at least for me. The beginning stage really challenged my patience as the young trees did not grow despite my effort. But then, after growing to a height of roughly 10cm, things become much easier, and what you are looking at gives me a lot of encouragement :))

For subsequent posts, I will share some of the recipes I had with these types of home-grown vegetables. I hope you will support them.

I really appreciate having your attention to my blog, and thanks for visiting and spending time reading my post.
