Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 15th November 2023

in HiveGardenlast year

Am I getting old? This year has flown by. Just one and a half months and we start another year.

My apologies for being late...again... with the newsletter. The change of seasons always seems to bring viruses and bugs to people and plants alike and unfortunately I also succumbed to a virus last week.

Talking of bugs, I don't envy all the pests @blingit has to deal with on her citrus trees in tropical Queensland. I get annoyed enough with my yearly scale battles. I love her walk through of each of the pests, how to recognise them, what trouble they cause and how they can be brought under control. What citrus pests do you get in your part of the world? Are they similar or completely different?

Moving on to another tropical garden, this time on a rooftop. @rem-steem's mother is growing some amazing things in pots. I'm eyeing up those mangoes up with great envy!

Of course in Europe it's heading into winter, so there isn't so much growing, but other things are happening instead. I've heard biochar mentioned regularly as a fertiliser, but been a bit puzzled as to how it would work. After all, carbon needs nitrogen to break down, which it will take from the soil if you just bury it. My attention was caught by @outlinez post on making biochar and he explains how he activates it before use.

I loved seeing @clareartista's rearrangement of houseplants before winter sets in. When you see these displays on the balconies and in the windows, you'll be sure to forget it's winter, even when it's in full swing.

Sorry you've had a bug! I know how busy (and shit) life can get sometimes. Hope you recover fast. Some good choices - I saw that one on biochar but haven't had chance to read it so I appreciate the reminder!

Life is just flashing by lately and I don't seem to be getting anything done! 😅

Hi @minismallholding We are very concerned about your current condition and we all understand our prayers for a speedy recovery and maintain good health there with family

It's been over a year since I was last sick, so I was probably overdue to catch something. 😆

Keep the spirit of the best prayers always with you and your @minismallholding family

Sorry to hear about the virus issue. Hope you are recovering

Is a pity hearing that. Just take care of yourself.

I'm hoping you will help me out with a problem I'm having regarding curating gardenhive posts while I am away this week. I don't want to bother riverflows with it. Could you please email me at [email protected]? It's a simple, one step fix I need.

Do you still have Discord? I've messaged you there

That's one of my computer problems - I can't access discord on this new computer of mine. But, I did figure out another way to get the key I needed, so it's all better now. Thanks!
