Garden Journal Bi-weekly Newsletter 25th October 2023

in HiveGardenlast year

Welcome back to another round up of gardening and homesteading posts. Looking through these categories has been a reminder for me that many of our gardeners are coming into that time of year where things won't be growing for a while. I hope it doesn't get too quiet here. If you think you are going to miss writing about your garden, perhaps the weekly creative challenge from Hive Garden will help to fill the gap.

Autumn is already well underway in the northern hemisphere and @cosmictriage's garden is apparently winding down, but in a very bountiful way by the look of it. There has been so much going on, lots of things to harvest and lessons on the importance of heirloom seed saving learnt.

It's a good thing we've got our southern hemisphere gardeners to keep the northern readers going through the winter months. Spring at @buckaroobaby's comes with a baby boom which is bound to brighten anyone's day.

Gardening can be quite the emotional cycle, as @fermentedphil quite clearly knows. From experiencing the joy and excitement of seeds sprouting, to the disappointment of finding them eaten then the hopes that some will survive and make it through despite these trials. As I read through his post I knew well what he was experiencing and how we grow and learn both practically and emotionally from those experiences.

Someone else who's been planting seeds is @afterglow. I'm looking forward to seeing how his adventures go with these seeds he been rescuing from various fruits. He seems pretty proud of his little bitter melon seedling too. I hope it grows well and brings him plenty of fruit.

Beneficiaries go to @fermentedphil and @afterglow.

Oh my dear, how did I miss this post? Thank you so much for discussing my musings about lost seedlings @minismallholding. Even though I am a week late (it seems like I am late for most things in my life), I really appreciate it.

Those berries look delicious though, and I would not mind growing some here! And it is wonderful that I am not the only one saving seeds like @afterglow! It is only a matter of time before big corp will produce and sell food without seeds in it. Better save them now and grow our own as much as possible.

Thanks again and good luck with all the growing!

I hear you. I feel like I'm constantly trying to catch up to everything in life and forgetting things until well after they're due. 😅

Thank you for dropping in anyway, even if it is late. I'll admit that I was a little surprised at the time of writing it that I didn't hear anything from you.

For sure! I am really not sure what happened. Maybe I looked over it when I did not have my coffee in yet!

Life is basically just a catch up game at this point. So many things so little time. At least our gardens keep us in rhythm in some aspects! Keep well and thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I agree, and I hope to have a sustainable seed bank in the future.

I can relate with you here as if I am always chasing something, my whole day is actually not enough for me to do all the things I want to do.

Thank you for the mention @fermentedphil have a nice day ahead.

Exactly! 24 hours seems so short when you get really busy. Always chasing, but if you enjoy what you do you will always be happy even when chasing things.

Oh for sure. That will be the best. I have about 50 or so different seeds that I collect from various edible plants to non-edible ones. Key is that ever growing seed bank. I try to plant things that grow many seeds, like amaranth and rocket (wild mustards as well). One good growing season and you will have enough for years.

Wow, 50 is a lot. I hope to also grow my seed bank. As of now I only have 5 vegetable and fruit seeds. And hoping that they germinate. Goo evening.

I am sorry for only responding now! I fell ill and many things still needed to be done.

With time it will grow. If you harvest wild plants as well, your seed bank will grow really quickly! Best of luck, I hope that will grow big and strong!

It is okay, no worries, are you okay now?

It has been some weeks now and I am still congested. But the pain has subsided. Bad throat soreness and pain in the limbs. But I am feeling myself the last three days. Thanks!

I hope all is well on your side?

Ahhh! Thanks @minismallholding. On behalf of my cuddly kids
