Gardening Season 2023 - Cleaning up after a storm

in HiveGardenlast year (edited)

Hello garden lovers! Two days ago I shared a post about the storm that hit us last week so this is kind of a part 2 where I'll share some photos I took while cleaning all the mess that was left behind.

Cleaning up tasks took a few days and each day it was different in terms of time dedicated to these tasks. On days when it was super hot, I did most of the work in the morning hours before the sunshine was too strong. That was the case with collecting all the plums that have fallen of the trees - there's a specific kind of plums that can be used to make rakija, traditional Serbian alcohol drink so I started by picking up those first which you can see on the photo. There was more, I just randomly took the photo towards the end of the task. Then I moved on to the next kind of plums and those ones we had to throw away unfortunately. There was quite a lot but they were useless. If the storm didn't happen, it would be a different story... Anyways, at some point my mom came to help me so we could finish everything faster and get away from the sun.

Here one of the ripped out apple tree that was planted in the area of our property where we have the chickens, a very small shed for gardening tools, white grapes and one portion of fruit trees planted. The entire area looked really messy with a few fallen trees, dried leaves and fruits all over the place. Well, chickens seem to like it as they were always trying to find hidden treasures here, lol.

My first task was to collect all the apples so it would be easier to move around and avoid falling over some of them while I am cleaning up - clumsy people problems. :) At this point I made peace with what we lost in the garden and I just tried not to think about it too much. Tasks like this always get me in a certain "flow" where my mind gets clear and I end up in almost meditative state which is one of the big reasons why I love our garden and gardening so much.

All the wasted apples from two of the trees we had. With all the fruit waste, we had to find a way to compost them which wasn't that hard when you have a decent amount of space in the garden.

Next thing I did was to move all of the dried up trees and branches I could find in this area and in our garden as well. They all ended up in one corner and we still need to figure out what to do with it. Maybe they can be used for the fire when we cook around and stuff like that. Next day all I had to do is to clean up the leaves and I was done! It looks so much better. By the way, we have a lot of these holes made by chicken as they like to dig and lay in their DIY beds, haha.

The best reward after gardening work is picking up your own breakfast! Fresh eggs, bell pepper and cherry tomatoes plus the cheese we get from the farmer's market. Yum!

Thank you for stopping by, I wish you all a great day! I am looking forward to share more garden updates at the beginning of August as part of the #gardenjournal challenge! Happy gardening everyone! :)

Ohhh dear sorry about your garden, so sad that some of these fruits had to be thrown away.

The apples look nice by the way, it's fascinating to look at because over here we don't grow apples, they are all imported.

Ohhh dear sorry about your garden
❤️

We saved maybe 4-5 apples just to try them, I guess there would be a lot of nice ones if the storm didn't happen and they got to the ripe stage. I'm not sure if we're gonna plant apple trees again or something else. Wow, it's funny how some fruits/veggies that are so common in one part of the world are not grown on the 'other side'. :)

Rakija!!!!

You already know!! :D

it's crazy how it could be like that.apples are very unfortunate .. we do not grow apples here @nikolina

Yes, this was very unexpected.
That's interesting to hear, I guess you also grow a lot of fruits that we do not have here. :)

Ohhh, you did a great and almost perfect job. It's bad to hear that storm affected you people. Sorry.

Be strong!!!

Please @nikolina, I like the dividers you used in your post. Please educate me on how to do it. I'll be grateful if you can.

Thank you @marajah!

To create the dividers just type --- (three dashes) under the text. :)

I'm glad you can use some of the damaged stuff. I guess compost is best for the rest.

Yes, I feel like those are the options we had - use what you can and discard the rest.

I am so sorry, the good thing is that nature always recovers. I love cherrys, I just have to replant, because the ones I have already reached the final stage.I wish you luck and good harvests.🍀💚

Thank you @dayanart!💜

Cherries are so good, I love them too! I also wish you luck with replanting and the abundance of cherries in the future!
