Gardening Season 2023 - How much can change in one week?

in HiveGarden2 years ago

Hello fellow Hive gardeners and welcome to another blog post! Today I am going to share some photos I took on June 3rd and on June 10th, not only as a small garden update but also to compare and see how much can change in one one week...

Blackberry flowers are finally turning into the buds and fruits which is very exciting! Other than eating them fresh, we use berries to make cakes and to put into freezer for winter. I also use them for my smoothies.

Speaking of berries, we are already enjoying raspberries - so sweet and delicious. Since we started growing them in our garden few years ago they have become my favorite berries. Seems like this is going to be a good season for raspberries as there's plenty of fruit on each bush.

A couple of pears from one of our trees. Pears and apples gave us a lot more fruit this year but we'll see how many of them will last until the stage of being ripe and ready to eat.

5.jpg

Some of our plum trees are so full of fruits that we had to put supporting sticks and tie some of the branches for them not to break. Being too heavy, there was a high risk of them breaking and it would be such a waste so I hope this will be enough of support for them to last until harvest.

Cucumbers (for salads) are finally here and there's still new flowers showing up since the moment I took this photo so I guess we'll be able to enjoy more yummy salads in the next few weeks. Another sort of cucumbers that we use for making pickles is also in the flowering stage and this year we planted more of those as pickles are very popular in my family during winter.

Here is a photo of corn I took on June 3rd...

...and here is a photo I took on June 10th! After super heavy rains we had few really hot days where the sunshine was really strong and these drastic weather changes in a short span of time definitely affected our garden.

10.jpg

Some fruits and veggies were really affected by the weather conditions we had in the past couple of weeks or even months but some of them are still thriving such as zucchini! There's so many flowers and we harvested a couple of zucchinis already with a lot more to come.

11.jpg

We had few of these empty small areas of our garden where we planted different kinds of peppers - bell peppers, semi-spicy peppers and the ones we use to make 'ajvar' which is a traditional Serbian condiment.

12.jpg

Last year our neighbors gave us some basil and we gave them rosemary to plant. Basil is doing great and it's a nice addition to our garden.

Thank you for joining me on another garden update, I hope you enjoyed this one! See you soon and happy gardening! :)

You have a lot going on in your garden. I wish I had the space to grow that many things. Chillipeppers and tomatoes is about it for me. It must be so rewarding to watch them grow and I'm sure they taste delicious that fresh. Nice post. What kind of Basil is that? It looks so much like mint.

Hello, great job, you have really post , and aslo cool photos , have a good day !)

Wow!! Your garden is thriving - it is clear you work very hard to create such an abundant landscape

You are lucky this year to have tree fruits. Most all tree fruits were wiped out here in New England due to a late frost.

The plants in your garden are looking great and are growing very well indeed! I love seeing how plants grow (often quite quickly!) through time! It's so amazing! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

What a beautiful garden! 😍❤️
