Secrets kept
allow imaginings to take form.
In silence and stillness,
creation erupts.
Long ago, earth’s human creatures were mired in mud. Not ordinary mud mind you, but mud of their own making, the mud made when one is not careful enough about what one wishes for.
Their wishes were easily co-opted by those few who wished, secretly, to rule, as wishes always are once they are made known.
When wishes are told, power is given to the hearers. In some cases this is good. But when the hearer is not intended to hear, or when the hearer has broken boundaries to hear, things can go awry. If the telling has been coerced, contamination of the once noble wish, by false images and impure actions, is sure to follow.
Some said a good look at a being’s eyes would disclose that being’s intentions, whether bird, bee or slithering snake.
The people relearned how to look deeply into the eyes of all beings,
they became able to see intent,
they became very careful about their wishes and
they rose, radiant, from the mud
that their kind had been mired in
for thousands of years
This is my entry to Hive Garden Community's weekly ceative garden challenge for December. The prompt is Like a lotus flower, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.
I started out trying to write a parable, which changed into a poem. For a bit I tried to put it all into a poem, but decided a bit of both was just the thing. It is largely a freewrite (that took at least two hours to compose), and its meaning is still a mystery, even to me. But it does feel true and complete, so here it is for your perusal.
I like it a lot! You have a skill that I do not possess!
Thanks man. I appreciate your leaving a comment. I really like this post myself. It was experimental in some ways. Why not let my source do the speaking for me? I learn a lot when I do.
Have you tried freewriting? I hadn't written a dang thing until I joined this space and gave freewriting a whirl. Just write whatever flows out, don't worry about whether or not it makes sense or has value. Surprisingly, if you can actually let go and let the story write itself, it will usually make sense and have value when you're all done. And it's fun, so there's that.
You might enjoy pieces by deirdyweirdy. felt.buzz is a freewriting master, carolkean has a mind-blowing mind flow. All of these are of like mind (open) and write great stuff.
I thought I'd replied but I see I haven't! Big facepalm. Life, you know. But thanks for persevering with me - I'm sure our #creativegarden challenge will take off eventually if we are persistant!
I love how you interpet the prompt. We're all shrouded by mud it seems - oh, for the blossoming of humanity! A gorgeous response. xx

Thank you River! I love this "story," which I took some literary liberties with. Writing it was kind of thrilling. Sometimes the magic happens, and I feel it did with this one. Too bad so few people actually read it (thank you for reading it), but the journey is what matters, and my journey on this one was fine indeed.
