MY FATHERS MINIATURE GARDEN

We may think we are nurturing our garden, but of course, it’s our garden that is naturing us.”
-Jenny Uglow -

For some reason maybe, people wonder why we need to do gardening instead, we do have our supermarket to buy all that stuff and for us to be convenient. The big story behind this is a man who cultivates plants and nurtures the garden. You are not just nurturing plants, but also putting your soul nearer to nature, in addition, your making your living simple and healthy.

QUICK VISIT

My husband told me to try to see my father's garden just a distance from our house, because I was not busy that time, I quickly went there and wow, it has a lot of crops. We can pick those for free. I heard many times about his garden when they were talking at the sala but I didn't have an idea that It looked like this.

THE SPLENDOR OF GARDENING

GridArt_20230809_161218971.jpg

These are the plants planted by a man. A man who has a very humble heart and dedicated husband to his wife. A lot of times I have been eating all the crops harvested from his garden. It took weeks before I witnessed his creation, his project, and his garden. Upon seeing all those vegetables, I was startled and excited to have my own pick on beans, ampalaya, and corn. Yey!, What a blessing, though.

Sponge gourd

My first pick was this sponge gourd, I love eating this one because it has a lot of benefits. Luffa cylindrica is the scientific name, and "sikwa" is the Filipino term. It's nice to pick the not-too-old sponge gourd because it has a nice smell in your planned viand.

Below are the health benefits of this veg.

  1. it improves the function of your brain
  2. it will boost your immune system
  3. prevents diabetes
  4. also it maintains the sugar level
  5. and many more

Bitter gourd

My second pic was this bitter gourd, A lot of folks don't like to eat this veg because it has a bitter taste. Momordica charantia is the scientific name , and ampalaya is the Filipino term. In terms of cooking ampalaya, they have a lot of tutorials on how to cook this vegetable but, we have three (3) ways to make this bitter gourd delicious in our meal.

Since we picked a lot from the garden, my husband made it into three menus. He fried. He roasted/grilled it. Others this is my most winning menu, make it into salad.

Below are the health benefits of this veg.

  1. it has high in fiber
  2. it controls the blood sugar
  3. it helps fight cancer
  4. and many more

My eldest likes to eat this too, as what I've noticed about my two children, they like to eat the kind of vegetables that I also like to eat.

THE MAN BEHIND THIS NOBLE WORK

IMG_20230803_173546.jpg

I AM SO PROUD OF THIS MAN. THE FATHER OF SIX CHILDREN. THE LOVING HUSBAND OF HIS WIFE. This is my father, a retired employee of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Balamban. Just new to gardening, he did research on how to cultivate plants and vegetables. Now that we were able to see his work, I was amazed and inspired and told him to plant more and hire somebody to plow some parts of the land and I would be the one to pay for the who wants to do it.

I want him to inspire to plant more, to sow more, because this is also a sort of exercise for him to reduce high blood pressure, through sweating. I also encouraged him not to do so much time and, to take some rest also. By the way, he is not selling his crops, this is only for daily consumption of our family.

Words to ponder

Vegetables supply your body with a lot of fiber and nutrients. We know, that gardening, is not easy especially if you're a beginner. You do nipping, cutting, and making your hands dirty. This work is relentless and winnable to everybody's tummy.

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”
