Hive Gardeners are My People

in HiveGardenlast year

I've been around on Hive for a good four years now, or is it five? I don't keep track, because it doesn't feel like a chore. Even completing the wrap up for the Garden Journal challenge, which takes forever, is a labour of love rather than resentment. I treasure every #gardenjournal post I read.

This months' #creativegarden challenge asks us to reflect on why we love the Hive Garden community. I've been wondering on how to creatively approach this question, without simply gushing. Because gush I can - I'll rave about how great this community is til the cows come home and hopefuly don't stomp all over our newly sown crops.

image.png

I feel so lucky that I get to manage this community as best I can, grateful for @skylinebuds that originally set it up and to @simplymike for inventing the #gardenjournal challenge in the first place.

Here's five reasons why I love this community.

Hive Gardeners Show Up

@goldenoakfarm, @jude9, @bluefinstudios and many others write consistantly on garden related topics on HIVE and can be relied on to educate, instruct and inspire. I know that every time I visit the community there will be some gem of wisdom for people who garden all the time and know their stuff.

Hive Gardeners are Gentle Souls

I don't know any gardener here who's an asshole. They're consistantly kind, considerate and caring. Anyone who tenderly plants a seed and nurtures it to fruit has to be a good sort in my book.

Hive Gardeners Teach the Future

From the Phillipino teachers with school gardens to the grandparents giving treasured garen memories to their grandkids like @farm-mom and @thebigsweed or parents like @luckylaica, they're teaching kids how to be resourceful, resilient, mindful, and protective of nature. Someone who cares about growing okra or peas are gonna care about trees too, right? And they're gonna teach the youth that nature is worth nurturing and protecting, because they know that life on earth depends on it, let alone the emotional support they get from tending a garden or the skills to put food in their belly. That's legendary, in my opinion.

Hive Gardeners make me laugh.

@mrprofessor, @edprivat, I'm looking at you. Somehow you can make a garden post hilarious.

Hive Gardeners Do Great Selfies

Many of us Hivers like a degree of anonymity on Hive, or are shy of showing our faces. Not Hive Gardeners - they're not scared of showing themselves smiling amongst the calendula or cornfields! And that makes me smile - a LOT! You all look so happy in your gardens. And because I can put a face to the user name, I start to get to know you more, and you start feeling like family, despite the digital divide!

Hive Gardeners present great posts

When they wash their hands free of soil, take off their overalls and hang up their tools, they write some pretty darn good posts. But hey, if it's it got a garden in it and a bit of enthusiasm, I'm a sucker for it anyway. From @nikolina's market garden, @isdarmady's hydroponics, @sofs-su's succulents and @umirais's tips for gardening in Indonesia, I'm guaranteed of a good read. There's sooo many of you to mention here I can't even really begin! Thankyou for being amaing!

Keep up the good work, Hive Gardeners!

With Love,

Great post about gardeners! Welcome back from your trip.

Thankyou! It wrote itself - our Hive Gardeners, like you, are just legends xx

Thank you for such an emotional post, if we have to use HIVE as a social experiment, then we will have to show our face. People trust more when they see the real faces.

That's me @sanjeevm, I'm an emotional girl! Love you all!

I've always wanted to start my own garden and it seems like I found the right place! Looking forward to reading in this community and gosh, my heart melted when you said Hive gardeners are gentle souls 😊😭

You'll be totally inspired - there's a lot of passion! And yes, they are - so friendly and gentle, I adore everyone of them.

Kah Ching! Joke's on ya I get royalty money every time someone use my trademark potato selfies. I miss reading, I'm not used to it anymore, it's burning my eyes...

I will never forget your trademark potato selfies!

Ha, I wish you got royalty money from potato selfies!!!

Dont' read man, it's dangerous. Just scan or use CHAT GPT to write your comments.

And because I can put a face to the user name, I start to get to know you more

That is so true! I am more likely to engage people with who really show me who they are or what they do... It's just more believable and I prefer the real deal.. 😄

Lovely people!! I am still searching for my dream garden with a nice house attached.. Had to give one up not so long ago so for now I have to admire other people's gardens.. lol

Have a nice day!

Awesome post! So true, every part; but I love the part of teaching the future and documenting what we do as gardeners. Hive makes an awesome platform for this so that we can share all our ideas and work. Cheers to a future where people would want to grow their own food and take pride in their gardens.

Feel so blessed being involved in this community. I've learnt so much from you all.

Same thing! Cultivation of knowledge for sure.

I admire this community for acknowledging such passionate gardeners in different places. Some people don't value much about it. I am inspired as well to do gardening.

It feels good to support global gardeners xx

What a lovely post! And not only that, there is a small piece of wisdom hidden in there that I've been kinda thinking about.

Many of us Hivers like a degree of anonymity on Hive, or are shy of showing our faces. Not Hive Gardeners.

As for me, I have had the same profile pic ever since I started blogging on the blockchain six years ago. Then, when I met a bunch of fellow Hivers at the Web3 Berlin conference, I kinda thought that my pic was getting a bit old (not me, the pic!), and to avoid that happening again, I decided to try the trend some Hiveans started doing, and used a cartoon pic of Stortebeker.

Since then, I feel, my level of interaction has gone down. Not the votes or the reward so much, but the comments. Could this be the reason? Now I'm thinking about posting a more recent headshot, or going back to the OG, and leaving it as my defining image for the remainder of times...

I think we like to know the person behind the scenes. I liked your old profile pic better, that's for sure. I used to be shy about showing myself but less so now - I've felt a degree of acceptance here that's unparelleled elsewhere.

HIve price has gone down and people are busy outside in summer, so that could be it too.

I know, I also like to remind myself that everyone is playing outside all the time (haha, I wish), but the HIVE price seems to be recovering.

In any case, I put my old profile pic back. The decision was probably made a while ago, but you gave me the final push. I thank you for it.

wow, cool bunch of people!

Love your contributions, @sunscape!

Hive gardeners are always proud of who they are and what they do. It's one of the reasons why am here too. I hate hiding my identity because am a free girl.

I got into gardening because of you ^~
What I love the most about gardeners is the general positive vibe. Who else can feel happy about getting covered in manure to create that super smelly compost? And then actually sticking the nose into the soil to smell it. Or when we step inside the house on muddy boots and dad gives that look and we say "bitch please, I'm a gardener." And then getting kicked out and sleeping with the chicken. The world would be a better place if everyone cultivated a garden in the backyard.

Awww, amazing!!!!!! I'd like to say I got into cycling because of you - but you know I'd be lying hahahahah.

"bitch please, I'm a gardener."

I really want to update your badge with that...

Hhahaaha that's meme potential
Btw we should call one of these days. That one day you called me it was super cool. We have to arrange a call when i go to the ranch.

This post maybe a sign that I should start my gardening plan in my own backyard. I want to be a gentle soul too.😊

Wonderful post along with many unique and funny comments, that were fun to read.
I hope you had a relaxing vacation. We were also on vacation at the Jersey Shore, @farm-mom's favorite place to relax. I also enjoyed myself, but couldn't stop thinking about how the garden was doing while we were away. Were the slugs devouring the cabbage, did the garden need watering, were the aphids wreaking havoc on the potato plants, had the deer come by to browse on the lush vegetation? At least it rained a bit and everything was not wilted, but the cabbage did take a beating. When so much time is spent making sure that all is right with the garden, it's tough to just walk away for an extended time.

Thanks for the 5 hive you sent me while we were away, greatly appreciated, and thanks for the mention.

This is truly a wonderful community that adds so much fun to getting dirt under your fingernails.

I did it!

THANK YOU for the prompt.

And thank you @owasco for tagging me and encouraging me to post.
I have kept quiet to the point of falling off the face of the earth.... for a reason.
Maybe not a very good reason?
I rant and rage and grouse too much....
Disqualify me from any upvotes or prizes (I can't access my wallet anyway and I want to pay it forward).

LOL, I see now that my image did NOT get hyperlinked.
Make a liar outta me...
There's so much that I left out of that post, yet far too much is in it already.
So here's the link, for whomsoever cares to read it: https://hive.blog/creativegarden/@carolkean/my-beautiful-disasters-as-an-a-hole-gardener

We used to do a selfie challenge ages ago, and we got a lot of gorgeous photos! I stupidly deleted the file but at least I saved a few!

Please @riverflows, I need a peakDbadge in hive garden community. Including a special banner. Please help me because the community directed me to you. Thanks.

If adjustment is needed, please inform me. Thanks in advance.
