That's a fascinating tip, and I have both of these in my garden. Do you eat them too or just grow them? I guess you'd have to grow a lot to make a meal. They are such beautiful plants and the beans always fascinate me. I didn't have any success with any kind of bean this year. In fact, I think I'm a has-been with beans. Or maybe it was the bugs.
THEN I read you hadn't fed your gnomes chocolate. Unbelievably neglectful!

Happy new year! I personally grow them more than I eat them. But usually once a year we make a meal using beans I've grown. I can't ever grow enough of them though so the rest of my family resorts to store bought pinto beans.
