"Gardening is a work of a lifetime: you never finish.” — Oscar de la Renta
Gardening is one of the best things to do during my family's vacant time. When we do gardening, spending time together means a lot. We share waves of laughter, creating more memories together.
Last time, we had our corn planted in the garden and my family was happy, we cooked and shared our harvest. My nephews were happy eating the cooked corn stews.
At this point, we had a variety of plants growing in the garden. Because it was not yet time to plant corn, we had different vegetables and fruits planted in the open space. We had our bell pepper, sword pepper, eggplants, peanuts, sponge gourd, and papaya. Having this around, our expenses in buying vegetables at the market were reduced.
Our bell pepper which we had a lot in our garden bears a lot of fruits already. Some were red colored and some were green. We had a lot of harvest which we placed inside our refrigerator for future use. This bell pepper was used in cooking delicious meals like vegetable soup, fish soup, and scrambled eggs. Aside from the vitamins that we get, its aroma is good to smell.
Our sword pepper which is also good seasoning for soups and other dishes bears a lot of fruits but in a smaller size only.
As you can see, near our newly planted eggplants are the half-cut of a coconut shell. Its purpose is to protect the newly planted eggplants from chickens roaming around our backyard. It was difficult growing our garden with a lot of chickens roaming around. We need to pay attention to the animals nearby.
We also had our growing peanuts near our eggplants. My mother wanted to try to have this because my nephews love to it this. But I guess the soil is not fit for growing peanuts because there are a lot of coconut worms in the soil which slowly eat the peanut flesh.
On the edge, we had our growing sponge gourd which bears flowers and fruits already. The size of our sponge gourd is not so big but it's enough for our daily needs. This sponge gourd is helpful to my mother because one benefit of eating this will lower the risk of high blood pressure.
We also had our growing green vegetables around. There were horseradish, sweet potatoes, and lemongrass. These leafy vegetables are very useful in our daily needs. When we cooked our vegetable soup, no need to buy it at the market because we could get it in the backyard. We had assurance that the vegetables were fresh and organic.
On the other side, the ginger was planted which was placed inside the sacks. There were 25 sacks all in all which I started to plant this last September 2024. I wanted to try planting this to help my parents in our daily needs and if this will become successful, I wanted to make this as a business in the future. Hehe business-minded, right? 😉
Our garden will not be complete without growing fruits. Because it's better to have a variety of growing vegetables and fruits around, we also have our papayas. Smaller-sized papaya were growing at the center of our backyard garden. When we don't have something to cook, we will make pickles out of it.
Growing vegetables around is not an easy task to do. We had to check daily and water the plants to nurture them to become healthy and bear fruits. We also put manures around it once a month to make the plants healthier. With the growing vegetables and fruits around, we had lesser consumption in buying outside. It assures us that it's fresh and healthy to eat.
That's all for my February Garden update. I hope you had a great day reading and supporting my blog.
Have a nice day everyone. 😊
I grew up in a farmers family, and it is so nice to see your garden with such a big variety of vegetables and fruits! 😍
Thank you so much. Yes, it's better if we have our own plants and we can assure that its fresh and healthy.
It's really nice to have our own garden. Aside from the opportunity to harvest fresh crops, veggies, or fruits, we can save money by not having to buy them at the marketplace, where everything is so expensive. 🥲🥲 Kalami sa papaya.
Totoo, kapag maraming mga gulay at prutas sa bakuran ay hindi na talaga tayo kailangan bibili sa palengke tapos ang taas ng bilihin ngayon.
Wow I'm so impressed. What an abundant garden! I'd love to eat a meal at your place with all that fresh produce. Just beautiful!
Thank you so much for appreciating my post. Serving you with our freshly harvested fruits and vegetables would be an honor. Greetings!
lovely garden with lots of variety
Thank you so much for your kind words.
You are very diligent in gardening and I see that you do it very well, of course your own plants are fresher to eat and you don't have to bother going to the market 😁 I really like seeing it because I also like gardening
