Moving the Italian stone pine seedlings to new pots

in HiveGardenlast month

These seedlings have grown about as big as they will in their little seed starting containers. And have started to look stressed, so figured this was the perfect time to get them out of their tiny containers and into something they can stretch out their roots in.

Hopefully I did not wait too long to move them, but I barely see any roots coming out the bottom beyond what I saw in my last blog post about them. Which is usually the sign I need to to transplant them, but with them starting to yellow it seems something is not right and I think moving them to new dirt in bigger pots is best.

The soil I used was the same stuff my cannabis seedlings were in, so I think part of why they look upset is due to the poor soil media. Just like my cannabis plants suffered seems my pine seedlings are as well in this dirt. Now my cannabis seedlings are in a mix of half of the old bad soil and half seed starting mix a lot like this stuff. So I hope they will grow and get bigger now I got some better soil to work with.

Though one Korean Pine seedling seems quite happy no matter what dirt its in.. lol Maybe it is not as picky as the Italian variety. Still amazing how this one came up before all the others for the Korean pine bag. I wonder how often that happens.

I get ready to transplant all the seedlings that are still alive. I lost 2-3 already so hoping that is all that is lost here.

Got myself some new dirt, I had good experience with this sungro black gold seedling mix. So I got myself a bunch of bags.

Topping off the pots with the seedling mix soon I will start moving over pine seedlings. I make a small opening in the center to place the seedling down into.

The best of the bunch of the Stone pines, lol.. if these do not take I may need to start over with new seeds.

The single Korean pine, the same one that germinated early during its warm stratification process.

We can see the difference in soil media, what is close to the seedling is the old stuff.. the new stuff is around the edge of the pot.

Got them all moved, using my trusty plastic fork they moved pretty easily.

Under the LED grow lights. All of them in their new pots, man they look really sad right now. But I do hope they will recover and start thriving in their new pots. If I start over with new seedlings I will probably just start them in these pots so no need to transplant for a few months.

Not every one made an easy transplant, but most did. As long as they have enough strength to grow and find the new soil I think they will do well. Otherwise its time to start any left over seedlings to fill in these pots.

Merry Christmas Y'all!

Not every transplant can be crowned with success. I could send you some addresses of reputable surgeons to confirm this 😮😣.
Your young pine trees seem to be feeling very much at home in their new 'environment'. You just have to make sure that the acidity of the soil is always up to the needs of the conifer.
Whether they're from Europe or Asia - it doesn't really matter.😊

Ah yeah, it happens. If I start over I will put them directly into those bigger pots.

I should PH test the soil, indeed they would like a more acid environment.

Merry Christmas, friend. You are busy making preparing your seedlings 😀. That is great. We are busy having fun with our families this Christmas season. Have a great time.

Ah thank you, yep always staying busy.

I think the Korean pine seedling is good in adopting different areas.😄

I'm sure the Italian one would feel comfortable on the new soil media and would grow better.😊😊

Hah yeah it would seem its more used to this I guess.

I do hope so.

Yeah.. and I'm hope I could see a 1 meter pine tree soon.😊

It's amazing how quickly the plants have grown, and I think it's the right time to transplant them; everything will be fine, they will soon gain strength and continue to grow
Great job
I hope you are enjoying a Merry Christmas dear friend @solominer

Ah that is the hope, we shall see.

Oh thanks, hope you had a good one too.

How are you, Mr. @solominer? I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas.

The growth of the pine plants looks great, and you have done very well in changing to a larger pot, this will favor the growth of its roots.

Have a beautiful day

Ah thank you, I did.. it was a good christmas. Hope you had a good one too.

Yes I do hope they grow well now.

The seedlings look really sad. I hope they will be happy and look more lively in their new pots. I wish you a merry Christmas.

Yeah they do, hopefully they will recover..

thank you, hope you had a good one.

A very good idea, when you see something strange about the Korean pine seedlings that you plant in small pots, maybe their space is so narrow that they need a big pot and soil medium seven has an effect on them, so the growth is a little slow.

Yeah I think the size of the pots had something to do with it. Hopefully these bigger ones they will be happy in.

Hey brother, sounds like a lot of hard work for your pine seedlings! Hopefully the fresh soil and bigger pot will give them the boost they need to thrive.🎄That tough Korean pine will probably be the star of the show and hopefully the others will follow!🌲

Yeah I do hope the others catch up to how happy the Korean pine is.

That's really too bad that you got a bum batch of soil like that. I hope that they can recover from the stress.

Yeah does sucks, first time buying something new... but I usually buy miracle grow and it never went wrong with those.

Now these seedlings get enough space to penetrate their roots. You are doing good job. Happy gardening. Have a great day! 🍀

Ah thanks, I do hope so.

You too.

I think they stayed too long in their old pot, they should have been transplanted earlier because they lacked space. I think they will be happier now in their new space.

I hope many of them will grow well. You'll surely take good care of them. Have a wonderful Christmas @solominer.🎄🎄🎄

Ah thank you, I will do my best.

Thank you, hope you had a good one too.

Saludos crack y feliz navidad 😊🎄👏🙏🏻.

Oh nice, yeah those are some great little pots. I bought them in a big stack and have a bunch more.

This is the first time I've seen this type of pine tree grow from a seed. How long did it take for it to sprout from the seed?

The italian pine needs about 40 days of stratification and then can be planted in soil. they come up a few days after that.

wow! It takes more than a month.

We have been doing a lot of food planting this year. My wife has our whole basement full as we pulled the plants form the greenhouse do to the colder weather.

Oh nice, its good to make use of the space like that.
