What's Blooming This Week - by Sunscape

This past week, many of the late-spring perennials bloomed in the gardens. Above is a red Asiatic Lily that is planted next to my pond. The first bloom opened and there is one more getting ready. It is a stunning color that pops against the lime green Hosta.

The last of the Columbine finished flowering this week. This one is in a shade garden and why it bloomed later than the other ones I have in sunny locations.

The yellow Gerbera daisy put out two blossoms and looks so pretty.

All of the poppies were dropping their petals one by one and they were done for the season.

I am leaving the seed heads to dry naturally and will use the poppy seeds for making bread.

The Dianthus plants that I purchased this year are beginning to fill out. I am hoping that they will come back next year.

hivegarden-10.jpg

I was happy to see a Foxglove from last year blooming, the plant is small but pretty. I have been noticing that each week seems to have a certain spectrum of color appearing with most of the flowers. This week there were definitely a lot of pinks.

This pink and white fushia that I purchased finally started blooming. I have it in a small pot and plan on keeping it over the winter. Next year I will put it into a large hanging basket to enjoy her again.

I have two Delphinium plants that came back and I plan on saving seed to start some more plants to spread in different gardens. I have always been very fond of Delphiniums. I wish I had a variety of colors, perhaps next year.

The Wisteria vine on the southern trellis finished flowering this week. It was so pretty when in full bloom and oh how fragrant she was.

hivegarden-13.jpg

The Shasta Daisies are doing nicely in the butterfly garden. All of the clumps came back after I divided them last fall. I am so happy now that I have four clumps instead of one large one.

I grew a few Osteopurnum and each of the plants had one blossom on them. I am sure they will continue to bloom throughout the summer.

hivegarden-7.jpg

My Kousa Dogwood tree is flowering but has fewer flowers than last year. Probably because it was really loaded last summer so this year it is putting out fewer.

That is a wrap for this week's #hivegardener update. I wish you a lovely week and happy gardening.

Until next time, this is Sunscape

I so agree, the plants bring so much joy when something new blooms each week. I can hardly believe it is summer already. Time seems to have flown by since seed starting in February. ♥

Having variety of plants blooming year round I too get pretty excited simply going outdoors to see what has arrived. Winter always goes much too quickly for me 🙃!

Wow! These flowers are really so beautiful! I could use the foxglove and These columbine in the textile industry.

That would be awesome. I bet the flowers could have many uses. ♥

The odd-ness continues:

Kousa is well done here
My daisies just started
My foxglove in a north garden is going by
And my single poppy in the wildflowers is still going strong.

And I didn't know you had wisteria!! How cool!

Wow, now that is really odd for sure. Funny how we are supposedly in different zones and yet our plants are blooming at different times. I used to have the regular variety of wisteria years ago and loved it. I trimmed it into a tree shape every year. It got so big that the wind literally toppled it and the entire root ball came out of the ground. We tried to save it but it never would stand upright. Hence, the smaller variety on the trellis that stays pretty much the same if I trim it back every fall. It smells heavenly!

I have a lot to harvest today and will be preserving and dehydrating inside since it is going to be so hot. Have a great week. ♥
