Prepping the Greenhouse for Startup - by Sunscape

There were two days this past week when the weather was sunny and about 40 degrees F. I start up the greenhouse usually by the 2nd week of March. It was the perfect time to get it cleaned up and items removed to make room for all the seedlings.

I keep the wheelbarrow, short ladder and all the containers in the greenhouse for the winter months. The hanging baskets and tower gardens all needed to be emptied into the wheelbarrow to refresh the soil.

I put my husband on that task while I swept the shelves and walls to remove any spider webs. Then the floor was cleaned well after moving all the pots around.

My husband did a great job rejuvenating the soil and amending it with nutrients. He then refilled them and put them back into the greenhouse.

The small towers are filled, stacked and ready to receive the spinach and lettuce seedlings. The onions are ready to go outside too and start getting that natural sunlight before I plant them out into the raised beds.

I have two more on the floor ready for Bok Choi too. Once I have the herbs a decent size I will transplant them into the remaining towers.

By the time we got all the prep work done my back was tired. So changing the soil in the larger container pots will have to be done another day. This week it is supposed get above 50 degrees F. That might just be the day I get that done and the hydroponic system set up as well.

It is time to get my plants outside as they are getting too large to be under the lights. I had to spend the day transplanting some of them up into larger cells.

The cold hardy cabbages are a nice size already and will benefit being out in the greenhouse to harden off.

The pepper plants are all getting a bit too large, too fast. I will have to transplant them all into 4" pots in two weeks before I move them into the greenhouse.

Until next time, this is Sunscape
Sun. Scape. Ing Your DayThis is my progress update for the first week of #March. It won't be long before all the seedlings will get to go into the greenhouse. Spring is right around the corner, yay!

Thanks, Milly I'm ready to play in the garden as soon as this snow melts. lol

Gardening is always hard work in any season, but it has its rewarding side. The days go by so quickly and you have to save time. Your little plants are looking great.

I agree, spring is fast approaching, and the young plants are ready to go into the greenhouse, maybe this weekend.

You put me to shame. I am just starting to think about gardening, haven't started anything but lettuce and shallots.

Looks good!

Ah, well I may have jumped the gun a bit this year, but the plants will be a nice size when I plant them in April and May. My shallots have not germinated, but the onions are doing fine. I may try starting them again today. Lettuce needs to be done again too. So many things to start this month for sure. Have fun!

I can see that the work and time invested there is paying off. I am sure that soon we will see beautiful plants in the greenhouse in future publications.

Absolutely, I will continue to update once I get them into the greenhouse and show their progress. Thanks for the visit.

Now is the time to start planning for spring, which will give us humans a boost, a renewal for everyone.

I agree wholeheartedly, this has been a cold and very snowy winter. I am looking forward to it all melting and the sun to shine brightly. Spring vibes are here, and I can see how happy the birds and squirrels are.

What a nice greenhouse, very nice you have left it and now that spring is approaching it is the season for seedlings 😊

Thank you, I am excited to start up the greenhouse this month. The spring season is fast approaching.

Sure wish I had one of each: a husband who helps in the gardens and a greenhouse... sigh...

I know you do! Hubby loves to help me with getting everything ready for spring, but I don't let him plant, LOL.

Cool
