Tending to Nature and Nurturing Creativity

Today isn’t like my usual weekdays when I have to go to work. Being the weekend, it comes with its own set of tasks and responsibilities. I usually follow a routine for how I spend my week unless something unexpected disrupts my plans. My schedule is generally fixed, allowing me to manage my time effectively.

As a teacher, my primary job keeps me occupied from Monday to Thursday. Occasionally, Friday comes into the mix, though this isn’t always the case. You might wonder why Friday isn’t a regular part of my workweek, but our boss decided to give us one day off each week due to the ongoing fuel and transportation crisis. This arrangement is temporary and will continue until either the crisis is resolved or minimum wage adjustments are implemented.

With this arrangement, I work from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday free for my other pursuits. On Fridays, I focus on my part-time job as a fashion designer, dedicating the day to sewing and creating designs. Saturdays, however, are reserved for work at home, particularly in our garden and with the animals we rear.

Today was entirely about homestead activities. I started my day early, ensuring I had enough time to complete everything on my to-do list. First, I watered all the crops we had planted in the garden. These include vegetables, peppers, and other plants. Once that was done, I moved on to a bigger task—planting about 25 suckers.

Planting the suckers was quite demanding. It took me about four hours to complete because I had to dig holes for each one in order to ensure the suckers were placed correctly and would grow well. Though it was tiring, I felt a sense of accomplishment seeing the rows of freshly planted suckers standing neatly in the soil.

After finishing with the planting, I headed to the section where we keep our animals. Feeding them is another critical task that I handle personally. I fed them section by section by making sure that each animal had enough food and water. This process requires attention to detail, as I have to check each pen to confirm the animals are healthy and comfortable.

Once I was done with the animals, I decided to return to my fashion work. On Friday, I started a sewing project but couldn’t complete it. Today seemed like a good opportunity to finish what I had left undone. Balancing these responsibilities might seem hectic, but I enjoy it because they give me a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
