Mid-June Seaview Garden Update: New Noni Planting Bed Completed, My Nursery Expanded, and Some Cool New Seedlings! - Seaview, Lower Puna, Far East Big Island, Hawai'i - June 18, 2022

in HiveGarden3 years ago

Warm greetings all! 🙏 💚

In my last Seaview Garden Update, I mentioned that we had brought two vehicles full of my plants from my jungle community (GaiaYoga Gardens), to The Sanctuary of The Blue Dragon, in Seaview. It took me a while, but I finally processed through all of my plants that we brought. In the process of going through all these plants I, out of necessity, expanded my nursery space, to accommodate all the new taxa! So many new plants to situate!

The new area of the nursery is blue tarp, right next to the older section. I'll definitely need to expand again soon, that is for sure! I situated new plants between both the older and newer areas.

While I do have lots of amazing plants that I would love to show you, for this moment I want to share my excitement around these two trays of seedlings. The seedlings in the upper tray are bobinsana, Calliandra angustifolia (which I discussed in this post), and the seedlings in the lower tray, that I just potted up, are what I believe is the true Rama Tulsi, Ocimum tenuiflorum, which is the same species as Krishna Tulsi. Rama Tulsi seems to be an all-green, non-purple Krishna Tulsi. I can't wait until these grow a bit more so that I can plant them in the ground. A new tulsi variety! Woot!

I finally (basically) finished the new planting area under and around the noni tree, Morinda citrifolia. The area is also between a few endemic ohia trees, Metrosideros polymorpha. I added a cinder path, and a good layer of 10-year-aged macadamia nut soil and mixed wood mulch on both sides of the path. I'll likely add a lave rock border soon. I planted a large Vana Tulsi, Ocimum gratissimum, that really needed to get out of the pot, my mate tree, Ilex paraguariensis, and one of my tea trees, Camelia sinensis, both of which I transplanted from my jungle community (GaiaYoga Gardens - and which I talked about in my last Seaview Garden Update), and a large Persian shield, Strobilanthes dyeriana, that also needed to get out of its pot. In this photo you can see the Vana Tulsi on the right, and one of the ohia trees on left.
