Life brought so many things to us, we need a little positive intention to appreciate them. Think about this Pandemic situation, we learn so many new things, adopted so different new hobbies; it surely adds a great value in our lives, no?
Our hobbies change just like our life. But some stay too long, we get attached to them for decades after decades because they live in the core of our heart. If I say about such a hobby of mine, I have to name Gardening.
Living in a megacity, in an apartment it was never easy to manage a home garden but I made it possible.
When did you start this hobby?
From my early childhood, as long as I can remember, we used to have a small lawn in front of our house. I used to plants different flowers and fruit trees there. I used to spend hours there. The lawn was not there anymore after we build a high rise there/. Also, I move out to this city but still miss that place!
Why did you choose this hobby?
It would be obvious if I say I actually didn't choose the hobby. I guess it was rooted inside me to love to be around nature. From my early childhood, I was a very shy, introverted person and used to feel comfortable around nature. This attitude made me come closer to nature and choose to spend time gardening.
How much time do you spend with it daily?
I usually spend my early morning with my plants, I waster them, nurture them and spend some quality time there to have some fresh breath. It's almost hours a day daily.
Some of my flower plants...
Benefits/Learnings I get from this Hobby
The enormous about of joy and happiness my plants brought to us can't be explained in words. My balcony garden seems like a little green space in this concrete jungle. It's hard to find places where I can breathe, have some fresh air and spend some quality time but my mini garden made it possible.
If I talk about the learning then I have to say, I have learned many things which I never thought I would. Because being raised in the city I never had many ideas about plant cares and cures.
Food I got from my garden
Special achievements I Achieved with the help of it.
I have some medicinal herbs, some vegetables, and flowers as well. My mini balcony garden provided me food, come cure for common diseases and sure improves my mental health.
I grew some green peas for the first time this year. And I always produce spinach.
I prepared this lentil and spinach curry from my garden spinach.
So...that's it. This hobby is serving me; it helps improve my mental health and gives me food; what else I could I ask for!
