Gardening update 24/09 and the gardening challenge!

in HiveGarden2 years ago

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here with an update on my gardening progress - or lack thereof!

Seriously though, we have been through a tough time, life has been really busy and we have had a lot of flu run through the house, except for myself so I ended up being really busy here and there.

In the meantime, my garden projects have stood still and the garden has grown wild!

The weather is turning away from the cold and miserable winter days and turning towards the Spring/Summer days that will give me more time to work out there! Also, with my workshop coming together nicely, there will be more space to work on the projects that I will need to do to get everything working.

Let's get into it!

The Garden at the moment

The Veggie patch area that I had planned has begun growing grass again. It is ironic how easily it does this when there are a few patches in the lawn that I would like to grow grass!

In the windowsill two little green peppers I have germinated from seeds are busy popping out their 2nd set of leaves (making a total of 4 leaves each). I hope these make it!

There is some parsely on the right, heavily pruned for kitchen use. Time to leave it to grow.... we need a lot more herbs in the garden...

The corner of the wild garden. Strange undergrowth type plants are popping out along the wall.

The veggie garden fence - A DIY project, needs to be completed!

The braai and entertainment area, I need to keep this grass a bit more neat. It grows more as well as all the invader plants that grow just as fast.

The pergola overhang at the back of the house has been like this since we moved in here with the shadecloth ripped... However...

... I have a plan on how to deal with it... These creepers are just laying here. I would like to make them part of that canopy!

I have plenty more containers to grow things in and get seedlings started. It is high time I start getting a move on with these things.

The compost and materials "yard" needs a bit of work as well.

I need to seive this matured compost heap and then add to it to start maturing from the other pile again.

And I still have plenty more garden leftovers to be chopped up and added to that procedure.

The Challenge!

Obviously, I need to get my butt in gear and start gardening!

At the same time, I have been speaking to @pixelhuntersam and I have challenged her that we will both make at least one gardening post every week for the rest of the year!

@lex-zaiya is also posting fairly regularly on that topic and I challenge you to do the same! One gardening post every week, for the rest of the year!

Here is @lex-zaiya's most recent garden post: September 23 Garden: New Additions

And @pixelhuntersam's latest gardening post: DIY Self-Watering from Recycled Bottles

If there is anyone else who would like to join us in our gardening challenge, please feel free to join in!

Cheers!

I think challenging yourself to post about it will motivate you more to do it. I'll follow along on your journey, unfortunately I can't join. My "garden" is a few varkore in giant pots and they seem happy with nothing else than water 😂.

Hehe, thank you. Love to those varkore!

It looks like a lot of work since you have a big area to cover, but at least there's some better weather coming up.
It's interesting to see the different kinds of fences and the pergola setup. It's always attractive when the right kind of creepers are growing to cover it.
Good luck with getting this all done:)

Thank you very much!

You're very welcome!
Have a nice Sunday:)

I usually watch these short clips of before and after. Some of these works are indeed mind blowing! While really wishing to see it here on HIVE as well ;)

Indeed! I need to get into doing some video work!

Now that you have all the before shots done, looking forward to seeing the progress! I was planning a garden update this coming week anyway, as I did get some work done! Just remember to turn your compost heaps, because the generated heat can end up combusting. You don't want an unexpected fire!

That's just the heavy metal compost heap! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

😂😂😂 Well, you don't want that heavy metal compost heap to claim your house or anything surrounding it. So just be careful 🤣

lol! Will do!

Grass is always the biggest challenge I have in my garden. Most of thew other weeds are easier to manage. I hope you don't have too much trouble with the grass this garden season.

Thank you very much. Lets'd see what happens with the grass!

I love watching our garden transform! I truly love our home so much ❤️❤️❤️

I would spend more time in my garden if you were there 🤣🤣🤣🤣.... Hmmmm... how to lure you....

WINE AND CHEESE

writes that down 🤣🤣🤣
