My Experience in the Groundnuts Business//Mi experiencia en el Negocio Del maní [EN-ES]
Good day everyone. I trust you all had a blissful weekend. I would love to share my experience when venturing into groundnut business. It was in my final year in the university. I was seeking for a way to earn money on a regular basis. Prior to that time I was selling bags of pure water in my lodge.
The business was going fine; people in my lodge patronized me. But it wasn't really yielding much income. I needed something to add to it so I could be realizing something tangible on a weekly basis. In the process of figuring out something to add up to it, the idea of selling groundnut came into my mind.
Buen día a todos. Espero que hayan tenido un feliz fin de semana. Me encantaría compartir mi experiencia cuando me aventuré en el negocio del maní. Fue en mi último año en la universidad. Estaba buscando una manera de ganar dinero de manera regular. Antes de eso, vendía bolsas de agua pura en mi albergue.
El negocio iba bien; la gente de mi albergue me patrocinaba. Pero en realidad no estaba generando muchos ingresos. Necesitaba algo que agregarle para poder obtener algo tangible semanalmente. En el proceso de pensar en algo que agregarle, se me ocurrió la idea de vender maní.
I, personally, love groundnut a lot. I can consume a large quantity of groundnut if I am not disciplined. And in the school I attended, students eating cassava flakes was a constant activity over there. And most of the students love to combine it with groundnut. It was like the perfect combo you could think of.
I decided to take advantage of this opportunity and go into the business. But how do I go about it? I had no experiences about that business and how to start off with it. But lucky for me, my roommate did. His mom actually did the business and he learned from her.
A mí, personalmente, me encanta el maní. Puedo consumir una gran cantidad de maní si no soy disciplinado. Y en la escuela a la que asistí, los estudiantes comían hojuelas de yuca y a la mayoría de los estudiantes les encanta combinarlo con maní. Era la combinación perfecta que se te pueda ocurrir.
Decidí aprovechar esta oportunidad y entrar en el negocio. Pero, ¿cómo lo hago? No tenía experiencia en ese negocio ni en cómo empezar con él. Pero, por suerte, mi compañero de piso sí la tenía. Su madre era la que dirigía el negocio y él aprendió de ella.
And when I shared the idea with him he bought into the idea and requested to partner with me which I accepted. We had to buy the groundnuts in its raw form, fry it and sell it so that we could make reasonable profit. I remember the first time I tried frying groundnuts, it wasn't a funny experience. There was smoke all over the room.

Half of the groundnut I fried ended up being burnt. But I refused to give up. I was determined to put everything in my ability to make sure it works out. Thank God for my roommate who had become my partner. He had knowledge on how to go about frying the groundnut to minimize them from getting burnt.
Y cuando le compartí la idea, la aceptó y me pidió que nos asociáramos, lo que acepté. Teníamos que comprar los cacahuetes crudos, freírlos y venderlos para que pudiéramos obtener una ganancia razonable. Recuerdo la primera vez que intenté freír cacahuetes; no fue una experiencia divertida. Había humo por toda la habitación.
La mitad de los cacahuetes que freí terminaron quemados, pero me negué a rendirme. Estaba decidido a poner todo lo que estuviera a mi alcance para asegurarme de que funcionara. Gracias a Dios por mi compañero de piso, que se había convertido en mi socio. Tenía conocimientos sobre cómo freír los cacahuetes para minimizar las quemaduras.
So we agreed that for the meantime he'll handle the frying while I'll take care of the selecting and packaging. That was how we did until I fully mastered how to fry the groundnuts. After meeting different shop owners and introducing our business to them, we suddenly got a suggestion from someone who came to purchase something from one of the shop owners we met. That suggestion really helped transform our business.
There were some set of people that sold fruit salad in our school environment. Those people usually make use of groundnut and they come out to sell every evening. Students normally flooded their stands to buy the fruit salad they sold. The person suggested that we try and approach those people.

Así que acordamos que, mientras tanto, él se encargaría de freírlos mientras yo me ocuparía de la selección y el envasado. Así lo hicimos hasta que aprendí a freír los cacahuetes. Después de conocer a diferentes dueños de tiendas y presentarles nuestro negocio, de repente recibimos una sugerencia de alguien que vino a comprar algo a uno de los dueños de tiendas que conocimos. Esa sugerencia realmente ayudó a transformar nuestro negocio.
Había un grupo de personas que vendían ensalada de frutas en nuestro entorno escolar. Esas personas generalmente hacen uso del cacahuete y salen a vender todas las noches. Los estudiantes normalmente inundaban sus puestos para comprar la ensalada de frutas que vendían. La persona sugirió que intentáramos acercarnos a esas personas.
That was a very great idea because before them, the few shops we supplied groundnuts to took days before they exhausted the groundnuts and then request for more. But with the people who sold fruit salad, the demand on groundnuts was daily. There were times we supplied groundnuts to them twice in a night.
This way we were making profits daily because we were supplying to those people in the park and also to some of the shops we were supplying to initially. We were not able to supply to all the shops anymore because the demand was becoming high and just the two of us could not meet up with it. So we settled with the one we were able to meet up with.
Esa fue una gran idea porque antes de ellos, las pocas tiendas a las que les suministrábamos cacahuetes tardaban días en agotar los cacahuetes y luego solicitar más. Pero con las personas que vendían ensalada de frutas, la demanda de cacahuetes era diaria. Hubo momentos en que les suministrábamos cacahuetes dos veces en una noche.
De esta manera, estábamos obteniendo ganancias diariamente porque estábamos abasteciendo a esas personas en el parque y también a algunas de las tiendas a las que les estábamos suministrando inicialmente. Ya no podíamos abastecer a todas las tiendas porque la demanda era cada vez mayor y no podíamos satisfacerla solos. Así que nos conformamos con la única que pudimos satisfacer.
In a brief period of time, we began to realize substantial profit from the business. Going into that business is one of the things I was really glad to go into. In case anyone is thinking of going into the business as well, I'll advice the person to go on with it. Especially if you're in a school environment, just like I was, you're certain of making profits.
