Last week Jan 22nd, my husband and I celebrated a truly special milestone in our lives—our 28+1 year wedding anniversary. This year, we decided to mark the occasion in a way that would deepen our connection with each other and with the Lord: by visiting the recently dedicated Urdaneta Philippines Temple in Pangasinan. What better way to celebrate our union than to spend this special day in His presence.
The journey began early on January 22, as we left our home in the city at 3:30 a.m. It was our first time visiting the temple alone, without the company of our fellow ward members, so we were excited but also mindful of making sure we wouldn’t be late for our 8:30 a.m. appointment. The trip was a little over three hours, but with careful planning and a sense of anticipation, we were ready to navigate the road ahead.
Our route took us along the scenic SCTEX-TPLEX expressway, offering beautiful views of the countryside that made the drive even more enjoyable. Passing through vast rice fields, corn plantations, mahogany groves, mango orchards, and lush vegetable farms, one would really marvel at the serene landscape. The road was peaceful and smooth, providing a stark contrast to the busier inner city routes we’ve taken in the past. It’s one of the reasons I absolutely love traveling by expressway—the open road gives a sense of freedom, allowing you to appreciate nature’s beauty in its full glory. But since it's dark I can only let you visualize.😅😍
As we traveled through Tarlac around 5 a.m., we witnessed the first light of dawn breaking over the horizon. That moment was magical—seeing the sky transition from deep blue to shades of yellow gold and orange reminded us of the many beautiful phases in life we’ve experienced together. It felt like the perfect symbol of our journey as a couple—starting in the dark and gradually moving toward the light.
We finally reached the Urdaneta Temple just in time for our scheduled appointment. Being in the temple, a place dedicated to peace and reflection, was such an uplifting experience. This is the lobby area where we get our scheduled appointment inside the temple. Photos aren't allowed inside the temple.
The spirit was so strong there, and it was truly humbling to offer up our gratitude for the many blessings in our marriage and our family. We reflected on our 28 years together and the love and faith that have sustained us through it all.
It was also deeply meaningful to visit the temple that had only been recently dedicated last year on April 28, 2024. It felt like we were part of something even bigger than ourselves—part of a community of believers coming together to strengthen our bonds with each other and with the Lord.
The temple grounds at Urdaneta in Pangasinan is absolutely enchanting. Walking through the meticulously manicured lawn from the entrance to the heart of the temple, with the elegant century-old Rain trees or Acacias towering above, must have felt like stepping into a serene paradise. The trees, standing proudly, symbolizes beauty and resilience—so fitting for our 29 years of marital bliss. It’s as though they echo the strength and grace of our own relationship.
The wide, spacious parking areas offer convenience, and the vibrant flowers scattered throughout the grounds add a touch of color to the already picturesque setting. The symphony of birds chirping and serenading you as you walked further into the peaceful atmosphere is a delightful experience. It’s easy to see how the combination of nature’s beauty and the sense of tranquility would inspire such a deep sense of peace and gratitude in you.
It seems like the perfect place to celebrate not just a love that has stood the test of time, but also to reconnect with nature's magnificence. How special that both the temple and the moment embodied the essence of our beautiful journey together.
In a world that often moves so quickly, taking a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate with our Heavenly Father is the most beautiful gift we can give to each other. Our anniversary this year was not just about the love we share but also about reaffirming our faith and commitment to walk this journey together.
As we drove back home, we both agreed that this was one of the most meaningful anniversaries we’ve had. It was simple, yet profound. We were reminded that, just like the morning sun, our love continues to shine and grow brighter with each passing year.
We ended up seeing this beautiful sunset at the memorial where we visited the graves of my in-laws.
Here's to 28+1 years of love, faith, and eternal commitment—and to many more beautiful memories ahead.
