Hello, Asean Hivers! I am glad to be back with another story to share,
Do you still know how to use a match? I guess of course, Yes.
My father likes to hoard a lot of things now and this I share with you is I think worth keeping. They all look cute and vintage. I am fascinated with my father's collection of matches when he was still young and a chain smoker. It was a very long time ago when my father stopped smoking in his 20s by the way.
The matches are from different restaurants, hotels, resorts, and/or establishments.
Let me choose and tell a little about some of the matches and where they are from and if the business is still operating.
Wolfgang's was a legendary music venue located at 901 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco.
Almost immediately after 1983, this 600-seat location called Wolfgang's was a hit, It's easier to list who didn't play here than did, but here is a brief list of those that did: U2, Midnight Oil, Randy Newman, Todd, Rundgren, Jerry Garcia, and Spinal Tap.
In July of 1987, a fire broke out in the hotel above the club, a combination of smoke and water damage closed the doors on a Bay Area Institution forever.

I like the white and gold color combination of these match sticks. They look classy and elegant. The match is from the City Club of San Francisco which is still operating.

A match from Le Gourmet, French Restaurant. This Restaurant has been long gone. When I search for it, Scends Restaurant appears. It has the exact address as Le Gourmet, French Restaurant.
Close-up view of these cute matchsticks. I like these simple white color matchsticks. The sticks are flat and small.
A match from Waterfront Restaurant. A mile from Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, California, Waterfront Restaurant boasts a view that far surpasses the tourist hubs. Opened in 1969, they soon became a favorite among local politicians and business people, and in time locals and foreign visitors were drawn to the breathtaking bayscape, farm-to-table produce, and sustainable seafood.

This match is from Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.

In the winter, the resort is known worldwide for its skiing and snowboarding terrain. In the summer, they have a number of amusement park attractions, along with a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails. The Bird is also known for their large Oktoberfest celebrations, which run each weekend from mid-August through mid-October.

Trader Vic's match. The message is great! Kudos to all those who enjoy drinking, are content, and maintain a balance between fun and dignity. They know moderation and celebrate shared experiences while still being gentlemen! Smoke and drink in moderation.
This match box is still sealed.
A match from Park station In old town, Park City, Utah
A match from Conga Lounge
And the famous convenience store around the globe, 7eleven has this match.
A long time ago, people figured out how to make fire, and eventually matchsticks were invented in the 1800. Matchsticks are one of the most important necessities used in almost every household and industry. Matches are single-use items. Once the match has been ignited, you cannot light it again. So there is a need for mass production of matches. People who smoke only used matches before the invention of lighters.
These photos of matches were given by the suppliers when my father was working in a softwood Company. Some of them are given by my uncles who came home from abroad. Each match ma have a story behind it. My father said he quit smoking as his birthday gift for himself. Everyone who gave him matches he kept them.
That is all for today.

I like how vintage they look. How awesome to know some information or the historical background of these establishments. It is nice that your father still keeps these match boxes as souvenirs of his work travels in the past. It also reminds him of his decision to quit smoking.
Exactly , They are my father's remembrance of resisting smoking. Thanks for admiring this post. I am interested in antiques and vintage that's why i shared it here.
