I want to share with you my journey into Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming. It helped me cope with emotional stress after experiencing business failures. The year 2021 up to 2023 might be my worst year ever. I've been in a painful situation that is hard to cope with.

BSF larvae were one of my pets during those days. It all started when my good friend, Rick Jaramillo, invited us for a simple meet-and-greet. He introduced BSF farming to my husband and me. At first, I was skeptical because I was scared of worms. "I said no, I'm scared of worms" Kidding aside, Rick told me "BSF is like gold" My mind blew, and started to think that I would try it. Right after visiting the little farm at Bulua westbound terminal, I and Joven started immediately to venture into the said BSF farming and I started enjoying the process. Gradually, I fell in love with it and discovered my passion for this type of farming.
Our BSF Farm
Our farm is located in El Salvador City, Philippines, and we started this journey in April 2023. BSF farming is truly amazing because it turns food waste into valuable products through a process called bioconversion.
Instead of letting food waste go to landfills, BSF larvae break it down and convert it into: High-protein animal feed and organic fertilizer.

To support this process, we collected food waste from Jollibee El Salvador, vegetable waste from Bulua Vegetable Market.This way, we helped reduce waste from these establishments while producing sustainable solutions for farming and animal feed.
Why BSF Farming?
At first, I don't care what is the result of this endeavor, all I want is to make myself busy and forget all the pain I felt, hoping that someday, everything would be fine. My husband sometimes doesn't understand why I am more eager to do it. I remember, I talked to the larvae and cried. In short, I'm doing it just for me to get busy.
a couple of months, I have discovered many benefits of BSF farming, and I’d love to share them with you:
Reduces food waste. BSF larvae eat food scraps, helping reduce landfill waste.
Produces organic fertilizer. Their waste, called frass, is a great fertilizer for plants.
Sustainable animal feed. BSF larvae are rich in protein and can be used as feed for chickens, pigs, and fish.By knowing all pf these, I am more curious to know more what is BSF Larvae.
Last October 2023, Rick Jaramillo called me that Doc Arnil Emata will visit our farm for some opportunity to be discussed. I never said yes because I know that our farm is not presentable for visitors. Rick J. and Doc Emata still insisted to see our farm and visited us surprisingly. Again, Doc Emata said "BSF Larvae is like gold" It opened my mind wide and pushed me to learn more about it.
Time flies so fast, we conducted seminars for those who are interested. We want to help more people learn how BSF farming can solve food waste problems and provide sustainable solutions.
