Hey ya Hivers! What have you been up to lately? I hope everything's well with you.
If you happen to be in the Philippines - Oh wait let me rephrase that - If you are a Filipino, no matter where you are, Karaoke is a thing. It's a major deal actually, especially during celebrations. We, Pinoys ( Filipinos ) love and enjoy music and singing regardless of how excellent or horrible our voices are. 😂
Now, this brings me back to memory lane!
Back in the day, when I was in primary school, my dad bought me a karaoke set. It was a box-like device with two cassette players and a built-in speaker. My parents, you know, loved music. I often see them doing Karaoke back then too! Dad had hoped I might become a singer one day. He described my voice as a singing voice since it is large, raspy, and low. He asked me to sing and practice every day but to no avail! Hahahaha! Well, the love of music and singing stayed though. I can even play the acoustic guitar but not an expert as I always say.
OMG, such nostalgia. I can't stop smiling.
Then...
When I returned home three years ago (just before the pandemic), that karaoke box was still operational. Mom listens to music on it, but she usually listens to local radio dramas. Because the bottom was made of wood, it was the first to deteriorate, therefore it was chopped off. It was still working at that point. I'm not sure if it's still continuing to work at this time though. I'll ask mum tomorrow because I'm sure she's asleep now. She'll kill me if I phone her right now to ask. LOL
One last thing!
Yup, that's me singing in the video. That's The Carpenters' "Close to You," and I sang it on purpose because it's my mom's favourite karaoke track. "To all the girls I've loved before" and "My way" were two of Dad's favourites.😅

I can relate to this ! hahaha my father loves to sing so much that he sings every day he records it in the casette, and he taught me how to sing too
back then singing for kids contest was popular in GMA network, he wanted me to participate but i refused because it’s embarassing he wanted me to have a highest key the same with sarah and regine back then, when i realize i couldn’t achieve such key i stopped singing

Technology has come a long way since the early karaoke days, my kids don't even know what cassette tapes are, only seem them in old movies, haha. I like your setup, the projector surely makes it more entertaining for all, and of course you've got a great singing voice. I know the Carpenters, but not that well, so thanks for introducing me to a new song from my own country 😁.

I left the USA in 2010 and have lived in Cambodia ever since, although I've lived briefly Jamaica, Albania, and Ecuador since moving here, and three years stranded in Suriname with my family during COVID because Cambodian wouldn't give me a visa and the USA wouldn't give my family a visa, and Suriname closed its borders.
In a way Cambodia is my home now, the place I come back to when I go exploring other countries.
Just like me Brunei, has been my home away from home @justinparke 😊
