When we thought of inflation, we know food is one do the most important indicator. However, the northern food price seems to stood still despite many years gone by. Penang is one of the most famous food paradise for the locals, taste like heaven aside, the price is extremely decent.
Before we dive into the food review, let me roll down a little bit of geography and culture difference here in the Malay land. Penang consist of 2 part, one is the Penang Island, and the other part being the mainland addressed as Seberang Perai. One of the major difference being, price tag. Anything in the island is slightly more expensive than the mainland.
Today, I'm going to bring you to the mainland of Penang, where we do not need to fight for parking space, and can still have good food at a cheaper price. If you drive here, be sure to download the local municipal council app. One of the best part being, you may use the app to find an empty parking space. Don't bother to find at the front row of the shop. My advise is, drive straight to the next roll, plenty of parking space there. Parking fee is 40¢ an hour, extremely affordable.
Back to food. Strategically located at the straits of Melacca, Penang is equally influenced by the Dutch and the Portuguese just like the Malaccan. Their curry Kapitan being on of the signature dish, married with the local coconut steamed rice Nasi Lemak, this thing is outstandingly delicious.
Mantis shrimp is one of the scarce seafood here. It's not really that expensive of a shell fish, but due to the fact that once you peel off the skin of the mantis shrimp, you'll left with very little "bite range", therefore it usually price higher than it supposed to.
I was shocked by the menu when I saw RM4.50 as an add on full portion when I order their Hokkien Mee. i wasn't expect a full portion since it's a purchase with purchase deal. And the portion is huge and I'm impressed. This is the kind of finger food to go with beer.
Junior being his usual self, got himself a set of toast bread with Kaya and Butter. Home minister ordered a Hokkien Mee. I will have to stop you for awhile. Hokkien is a province in Southern China, next to Taiwan. In Penang, both island and mainland, most if not all Chinese are descendants of Hokkien. Therefore, they're really proud of that a d name their signature food recipe as their origin home land 🤣
I too, got myself a bowl of prawn noodle a.k.a Hokkien Mee of Penang. If you're in Kuala Lumpur, make sure you call this a prawn noodle. Because, in Kuala Lumpur, Hokkien Mee meaning fried noodle 🤣 It's just how we Chinese love to name our food after our origins.
The restaurant looks very normal, very clean and doesn't smell funny. I like it they open the back door and allow air flow through the restaurant. It's not too warm in the dinning area and if I approve it, meaning it is not hot because I sweat a lot.
One of the thing I need to highlight, is the plague. It was a gift from the owner's cousin. This type of old school plague has long been forgotten, and I totally admire how they still practice it. The plague was minted in June 2020, that's exactly when the pandemic set foot and killing all businesses. I am impressed not only by the food, the price tag, but they actually started business right at the middle of the COVID vortex and their business thrive until today. I wish they will continue to build their prawn noodle empire and hopefully next year I will be able to enjoy their good food again.

The place of Penang is progressive, the foods are all delicious, I hope that kind of food is available here in the Philippines.
Full parking lots is one of the problem of the drivers specially when there is no already space. 🤣
The Philippines has their own good food. Whilst in Malaysia are heavily influenced by the Portuguese and local Malay food, majority of our food are fiery spicy 🥵 I wish you can come and try these food 😊
Parking can be very convenient, because the local municipality has installed transponders on the parking lot. By installing a parking app, you'll be able to identify which lots is available for parking 😊
I really love spicy food. I really have good appetite with spicy foods. I wish I could really try those delicious foods.
