There are thousand and one things we need to take care of in our life. Part of it being our consciousness. In order to justify, human often associate moral with religion, and action towards believes. Wait... I don't even know what am i talking about since i was a less religious person.
What i like about Catholics is, they're doing the formal stuff. I like the seriousness of a proper catholic mass and how the priest celebrate it. I like it how they emphasize of the significant of any biblical occasion such as lent season.
Now, what i dont like in a Catholic church is the exact same thing in Protestant churches, how people use their own intepretation as an ultimate understanding of God's word. I understand why lent people are practicing abstain. There's two type of abstain usually Catholics practices, one being giving up choice of food. To abstain from land grown meat, such as birds( any form of birds including chicken and duck), cows, dogs, sheeps, deers any given form of mamils that lives on the ground. The only allowed meat are from the sea.
I understand this is like a small challenge in remembering Jesus took 40 days 40 nights to pray, but what i can't made up my mind is, who designed this program to allow people to eat fish? Is shell fish permitted? Can we eat dolphins? Since it is considered as mammals? How about turtles? Crabs? They do come to the ground don't they?
The other type of abstain being, mentally challenge. Like some of the things that we usually do, we refrain ourselves from doing it. Can we stop playing cell phone games for 40 days? Can we stop drinking beer for 40 days? Can we stop smoking for 40 days. My own story was 2020 lent, due to covid lockdown, i wasn't able to get cigarettes from the stores, i wanted to smoke so badly until i rolled a toilet roll joint and smoke it and the rests are history. May be that's how God help me stop smoking.
Overall, i guess there's always some religious extremists in any form of congregation. The most important part being, we know our shit and do our part. Lent is about the human and God, has nothing to do with another person. I have already stopped smoking for 5 years now, but I've seen people stop for 40 days and still fall back to their old habits on easter sunday again 🤣 My apologize if you're offended by the above sharing. Yeah, I agree with you when it comes to the part of fasting from smoking for 40 days and then back again on the Easter Sunday. I think it all goes with the conviction of their heart on how faithful they are to God making a change and great wonder in their life.
