Getting your dinner during national lockdown can be a challenge. One of the SOP imposed for restaurant is in Selangor is order must be done before 8pm. No new order is allowed after 8pm. For an office worker as myself, typically office hour finished at 6pm. Traveling from office to the restaurant could take around 30 - 40 minutes, depending on traffic.
Once reaching the restaurant, you need to queue and put your order. The waiting can be for almost 1 hour. This is because majority of office worker don't have the time to cook for dinner. The next available option is order for take-away.
For today's dinner, I stop by at a satay stall in Shah Alam, and I am ordering beef and chicken satay. In Malaysia, satay refers to the skewered meats that is marinated in a mixture of spices and cooked by grilling it.
This is my second time ordering satay at this stall. Their satay is quite good. I prefer their beef satay, which is tender and flavorful. Previously they did sell lamb satay. But maybe the demand is not there, they stopped selling lamb satay.
Price of their satay is standardized to MYR1 per skewer. So far, this is the cheapest price for satay that I've seen in Shah Alam area.
Not my luck, today's nasi impit was out sold out. In malay, the name 'nasi impit' literally means compressed rice. The dish is made up of cooked rice which is then compressed in a plastic container. The shape of nasi impit is always in cube shape. Nasi impit is commonly serve along with satay.
Many of the roadside stall use hot coals from wood fires to grill the satay. There are some that is using but both gas and charcoal grills. For me, grilling with coal give the authentic satay taste compared to grilling on top of gas stove.
Grilling satay is usually brief. If too long, it will burn the meat and gave it a dry taste. But if too soon, there is a possibility of uncooked meat. It take practice and time to master the art of grilling satay. The satay need to be perfectly grilled and nicely charred.
Ooohhhh...don't forget the peanut sauce. Imagining dipping satay in a good peanut sauce is mouthwatering 🤤

Very cool, such a small shop, but very tidy presentation and even a QR code to scan for payment. This is probably the way all similar small businesses will have to operate in the very near future.
And they are friendly too 😁
Yeah, most of the small business owner has adopted this way of payment. As a user, it is convenient. I do not need to carry that many cash now
