I think that if you are putting away a couple hundred bucks a month and don't touch it, that you are doing quite well. The people that I focus on that are teachers mostly struggle to have anything left by the end of each month and are actually borrowing money from friends in order to simply have food. These people are doomed.
If you are saving like you said, I think you will be fine. However, you need to make that money work for you because even if you are putting $2000 a year away, if you aren't getting interest on it you will never be able to fully retire. Let's say you have another 30 years ahead of you and manage to put away $200 a month, that's well under $100,000 and that isn't enough to live all of your life IMO.
