Our New Year Preparation

Happy New Year everyone!

Yesterday, we went to Gaisano Mall. It was crowded. Butuan city is surrounded by many towns like Buenavista, Nasipit, Carmen, Cabadbaran, Magallanes and some places of Agusan del Sur. The places of Agusan del Sur have only two malls, so, the settlers from there would ride up here. In short, Butuan city is a regional center of the Caraga region. During December, it is expected that this place is very crowded. During Christmas, there are only a few families who prepare a festive celebration. They choose to travel and come back during New Year. During New Year's Eve, we commonly prepare circle objects in a table such as coins, round fruits, round candies and round chocolates. It's their belief that round objects symbolize plenty of money. Personally, I don't believe in this tradition because our luck depends on our hard work. At home, my mom put circles on our table but it is in this new year that we don't have it because she is sick and I prefer to just cook simple foods.

While my mother was paying at the cashier, my baby repiled the stocks of coffees. She enjoyed it very much so I just let her play the stocks because it isn't a fragile stock. We expected that it took a long wait since the queue was too long and we were right. I was glad that the security wasn't strict to allow my baby piling the goods. Every time we go to the mall, I can't relax since she loves riding in an escalator and she doesn't like to ride in a cart. But yesterday, I didn't expect she was behaving. My anxiety comes up also when we meet a lot of strangers because she loves greeting them and hugging.

This is Penato, a Filipino treat made of peanuts that are mixed with granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter and baking soda and baked. Well, it's yummy. At the mall, it costs 51 pesos. It reminds me on childhood days when my neighbour gave us this food as our snack. They even sold it for 5 pesos each. The aroma was tempting.

This food is also called Caycay that costs 52 pesos at the Gaisano mall. I like it even if it's hard. We can feel a grated peanut when we chew it. For me who has braces on my teeth, I can't eat more than one of this but way back on my adolescence days, it was one of my favourite snacks at school. It is sweet. It has a little bit gummy sensation on your tongue.

This food is a Pinoy food we call Otap. The price depends on its brand. It is sweet and crunchy. When someone travels, it is a common pasalubong to buy. We can buy it commonly at the bus terminals as there are many vendors sell itside the buses.

This is a peanut turon for 50 pesos. Turon is a ripe banana of Saba that is rolled by lumpia and it is cooked on a boiled oil, but this one is a roasted peanut mixed with sugar in a wrapper. Like the banana turon, it is also cooked in a boiled oil and the result is very crunchy.

After we paid at the cashier, my baby had enjoyed watching the Christmas trees. These trees are very expensive this season. It is wise to buy these before December to get the good price. I was wishing to buy a tall Christmas tree and I wanted a white Christmas tree. However, now that I'm a mother, it isn't practical anymore. Maybe if my baby will wish to have it at home one day, I'll b convinced. She was very happy she saw a white trees.

Anyway, I must end up here. Anybody at home are busy to prepare our dinner for New Year's Eve. They are right now making Spaghetti, Roasted Chicken, Cassava Cake, Mango Float, Chicken Curry, Pork Afritada, Pork Tinola, Hamburger and beverages. How about you? Do you prepare your New Year's Eve?
