The benefits of going to a small gym
The benefits of going to a small gym
Hello Friends,
So, Monday through Friday I go to a small gym a block from my home for about an hr. They have no AC, and some of the equipment is broken, but its My gym. No fancy clothing, no judgment people, just gym time. That got me thinking about small gyms. So Today, here are photos from my gym and some thoughts on Small Gyms.
If you’ve looked into joining a gym recently, you may have been put off by the size of some (I know I am). They can be so big that it feels like you’re simply going to a massive locker room and leaving again. The smell of sweat seems to linger in the air and everyone is watching what everyone else is doing. It’s at this point that many would choose to stay home or join a small gym instead of a big one. But why is this? Aren’t smaller gyms less likely to have all those bulky equipment? Well, yes they are, and here are three reasons why you might prefer small over large:
Small gyms are more focused on training and not about looking fancy.
A huge part of any gym is the facilities that they provide. If you join a large gym, it’s likely you’ll find almost everything you need in terms of equipment. This may be a blessing or a curse depending on your goal. If you want to bulk up, you may find that the equipment at a larger gym is far better suited to this than cardio. In a small gym, you’re less likely to find this to be the case. The focus is on your training and not what the equipment looks like. A large gym may focus on having a huge variety of equipment and machines. This can be both a good and a bad thing. It’s great because you can train almost every body part, but it can be bad if you’re not sure what you’re doing. Without a personal trainer, it can be hard to know where to begin.
Smaller gyms mean less people, which means more time on the equipment
One of the main differences between small and large gyms is the number of people who go there. While the membership price may be less, in a big gym the sheer volume of people means that you may spend very little time actually training. This is likely in part to the time it takes to walk from one machine to another but also due to the sheer amount of people who frequent such a gym.
In a smaller gym, you’re less likely to be caught in a jam and find yourself waiting for equipment. It’s often the case that in larger gyms there are many different types of people. Some of them may be experienced, while others may not be very knowledgeable. This means that you may find yourself waiting for equipment that someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing is using.
Smaller gyms tend to offer more personalized support and guidance
A large gym may have many staff members, but some are likely to be more qualified than others. If you have an injury or are unsure about how to use the equipment, there may not be anyone to help. In a smaller gym, you’re likely to find more support from other members and the staff. This can help you to achieve your goals faster and with less risk of injury. Depending on the gym, you may find that there are certification courses for those who wish to become trainers. This can help those who are interested in becoming a personal trainer get a head start on the process. There are likely to be fewer people going through these courses in a smaller gym, and this can mean more one-on-one time with the trainers.
How small gyms can help you reach your fitness goals
A smaller gym will likely have more qualified staff who can provide one-on-one support for members. This means that you can get advice tailored to your needs and have someone to guide you when you need it. If you join a large gym, you may be lucky if you find one person who is qualified to help you. If you want to bulk up and add muscle, you can do this at a smaller gym. You’re less likely to find equipment that’s designed to help you lose weight there. If you want to lose weight and tone up, a smaller gym that is focused on cardio will be the right place for you.
Conclusion
Whether you prefer small or large gyms, the most important thing is to find one that you feel comfortable in. If you’re not sure where to begin, you may find a fitness app helpful. They will help you find the right gym for you and can also recommend the best fitness apps.
What do you think?
- Do you like Big Gyms, small gyms, or just training at home?
- Do you go to the gym, and if so, how often?

I like smaller gym too since there are less people 😀 I was working out at a smaller gym and switched to something bigger now. I kinda see the difference but either way, they both has its pros and cons.
