Hi there ASEAN hive community hope everyone had a safe and great weekend. It's nearly two weeks since I last posted content to the community and for this content, since I am living along the coastline I will be sharing the daily lives of some local fishermen in our village on how they catch fish in sustainable ways. Most of these fishermen catch fish for personal consumption.
As you can see in the photos below the fisherman catches fish doing the "Mang Lamba" method. It is a traditional way of fishing by making disturbances on water through splashing, while a fishnet is set up already on the shallow area where the fisherman does the splashing. In that way, fish get disturbed and causing them to swim in a different direction until the fish gets trap in it.
In these photos, the fisherman started splashing the water it is likely he saw a school of fish and wanted it to trap on the fishnet he set up.
While the other sustainable way of catching fish is spearfishing, like what these lads are doing. Considered the most dangerous way of fishing. But these lads are freedivers as well so basically they know their breath-hold limit below water. It's sustainable fishing in a way because spearfishers prefer to catch big fish, in that way they give smaller fish a chance to grow and produce.
Look at the spear he is holding it appears like his spear is longer than his height.
On the other hand, this lad below was using a fishing rod. He gets first his boat that was anchored, rowing it back to the shorelines before going to the deeper portion of the ocean.
He gets his fishing boat and brings it back to the shoreline so he could prepare his fishing equipment before heading back to the ocean.
