👩‍🍳 Srey-Yuu Is Now A Fully Licensed Roti Technician 🫓

For many years I've asked Srey-Yuu if she is ready to become a licensed roti technician, and on this day she decided to learn the craft.

👊 Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy 🍋

Okay, first of all I should say she didn't make and knead the dough, and I guess what we usually make our phulkas instead of rotis. But in all fairness the dough is the easy bit, using the rolling pin and poofing the phulka with an open flame is the hard bit.

Well, what can I say, she has a great chef-dad-instructor, and after I had her watch me very closely prepare two phulkas, it was time for her to take over. Surely enough she rolled a good phulka, perfectly blistered it on the tawa, made a smooth transition to the handheld bbq thingy, poofed it while flipping, then gave it a nice coating of oil on one side. Next time we'll knead dough together and she'll know all the steps.

👩‍💻 Veteran Googler

Our newest phulka professional is already a veteran googler, and often opens a new tab to search the web about any random curiosity she has. How to "Google" is a computer/internet skillset that many people from my own country, the USA, don't have. If you learn how to effectively search for things on the internet, there's almost no limit to things you can learn and teach yourself.

Even though we live in the middle of nowhere high in the Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia, with a rural provincial capital 4 hours away, a good chunk of the world is available to Srey-Yuu through the internet. Mostly time is spent on Hive because it's a far more useful place than Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok, or other mainstream internet fixtures. If things go as planned, Srey-Yuu will likely be a landowner and potentially a landlord before the end of 2024, all via her crypto earnings.

🐈 Chairwoman's Eternal Hunt 🦗

Lately my wife has been giving me a hard time because I've showed Chairwoman Meow several places in our house where she can catch geckos. Since her presence in our house the number of gecko turds falling from the heavens above has dropped dramatically. There's a lightbulb above the refrigerator that attracts insects, and therefore geckos too, and I've pointed this out to her. When my wife is asleep I put Meow on top of the fridge for a while and she gets into a zen-like state as she waits for a gecko to make a terrible mistake.

My says I am a bad vegan, and this is the same as if we just ate meat ourselves. My counterpoint is that the insects and geckos exist as creatures until they enter Meow's mouth, never really ever existing as dead meat 😜. From living creature to cat fuel in the blink of an eye, that is just how things go. Meow didn't choose to be a carnivore, and didn't choose for her mom to die just after she was weaned, but she chose as her humans even after being well acquainted with all the village homes here that are swimming in fish heads and all the other things a kitty likes.

I never planned to have a cat as a vegan for obvious reasons, but I also never planned for a cat to choose me. So I do my best to teach her how to "cat," at least as a good as a human vegan can. I enjoy our hunting excursions where she rests on my shoulder until I discover bountiful hunting grounds and place her on the ground to do her thing while I keep a lookout for hungry village dogs and other kitty dangers. When Meow gets a kill, I look the other way, she does her thing for a little bit, then we head back home in stealth and secrecy.

Aah, relieved of roti duty. Love that you have a carnivore cat! We are currently looking after 3 cats (I'm a dog person through and through) and 2 days ago one of them presented us with a mouse. Still alive. Proceeded to eat it then vomit it straight back up again. Charming, lol.

Haha, we've received a few seme-conscious mouse gifts. I've worked to give her a taste for insects because that is a food source we have plenty of around us. She loves grasshoppers, roaches, crickets, and even this morning she had her first mantis. The mantis was a struggle because it kept grabbing her face when she tried to eat it. We tend not to discuss her serial killer affliction, and in turn she entertains us by eating small amounts of seaweed and bread.

Ha ha ha I can't stop laughing, this is the first time I've heard of someone being licensed to make roti. But yes, it's a bit difficult at first, in the beginning I couldn't round the roti, but now I can. So congratulations for her.

I told Srey-Yuu about your comment and she was flattered. She said, ".....but doesn't @semarekha come from Bangladesh where everybody knows how to make rotis?" I told her that even many people from India/Bangladesh can't make rotis because it does take some skill. Now she feels very proud of herself 😜.

Yes but it is true that a large part of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan like to eat roti. But many of today's generation can't make roti, they don't have that skill. You are correct.

Haha, what a wonderful thing to be good at!

When she learns how to mix and knead the dough, I will likely magically forget how to make rotis 😜.

that sounds like a really solid plan to me! 🤣

Yay! 🤗
