I find it difficult to have my students create a final work for graduation because they are used to memorizing and answering questions rather than developing original ideas. I need to guide and support them in shifting from passive learning to active, independent thinking and creation.
One of the causes is limited meeting time. All students are doctrined to believe that memorizing is the highest achievement, making creativity and critical thinking challenging.
I am not the deciding teacher, nor can I make any policies. The education system and doctrines come from the school principal, who still believes that memorizing is the best approach to learning, limiting students' creativity.
My students seem afraid of what to do and lack independence in thinking. I asked a student to be a drama director, gave him a plot, and told him to collaborate with his mates, but I saw fear in his eyes, unsure of his own decisions.
I tried to motivate him, but in the end, he stepped back from the assignment as a director, unable to overcome his fear and hesitation.
I was confused, and the worst part was that skepticism spread in all the students' minds about the work. I felt it was not a healthy mindset for young people.
I would try to persuade my students to create their final works because the drama could become a sweet memory for them in the future. They would remember how they worked together, brainstormed ideas, and overcame challenges, helping them develop creativity, teamwork, and confidence in their abilities.
I have just experienced this. My previous school was better—students were enthusiastic when I asked them to create a work or perform on stage. Yeah, doctrines shape mindsets, whether good or not,
