My dad was born on the 26th of Decemeber 1957. He is in his later part of his 60s. Sometimes, I can’t believe that he is getting older as the years pass by. This year we celebrated his 67th birthday. It is great to have both my parents around. I guess he is pretty much at times wondering about the times that have gone.
We usually celebrate birthdays earlier than the original dates.
So we brought him to Megahotel for a buffet lunch
This is one of Miri’s oldest hotel.
Lots of food to choose from
Parked my car outside the hotel and walked to the restaurant of the hotel. The hotel part of this hotel to this date is quite popular. The part that has not gain a lot of traction is the mall part. There is a mall part of this hotel.
A sculpture of a seahorse and a hornbill
Let us take a look at the inside of the hotel.
Quite clean and well managed.
Some local delights
These are puddings
Quite colourful. Green and white. The green part of the pudding is usually made of pandan. Pandan is a type of aromatic leaves that grow here in South East Asia usually used for creating beautiful colours.
So many different types of cakes.
Grilled fish
Usually placed on banana leaves and marinated with spices and grilled.
Nice cute hornbill sculptures.
Below is the Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world found in Malaysia. It is quite hard to see this flower in the wild. It only blooms in a long long time.
Some puffs
I love fruit puffs. Super soft to chew on and smooth.
Coffee anyone? I love having coffee. Especially when it is hot.
Clams
These clams are quite chewy.
My nephew and my bro in law
The seahorse
The symbol of Miri. These are made of sticking beads onto the frame. Super colourful and amazing to look at. I could tell that this took a long time to create.
I also got myself a bowl of the Malaysian cendol. Shaved ice dessert here.
They shaved it while I was there at a special area.
My parents holding my niece
What I got for myself
The food here is good but the variety stilll lacks a bit.
The interior of the restaurant. This place is stilll quite stunning to look at even after so many years. When I was a young boy, my parents used to bring me here alot. To stay in this hotel.
This is a picture of me and my two cute nephews
After that, I felt quite full and had lots of energy to just walk around a lot. Especially in a mall.
Thank you very much for reading this post.
The typical Chinese pantang of do not celebrate AFTER the actual day, is to avoid the "celebration is in the past".
Another old saying is, the actual day is already added one year, if celebrate again later date, which means adding an extra age to the host 🤣 wonder why Chinese tradition add 3 years on the last day?
Sorry to bring this up, I know it's ridiculous but fun to talk about. FYI only. Since we're still early, wish your dad a very blessed birthday and fruitful years to come. Cheers buddy.
The ambience looks beautiful of this place. Happy birthday to your dad. Stay Blessed! :)
