Years ago, I attended one of the Enrichment activity of the Women organization in our church. It was a homemaking activity of which the topic is home cooked meals. One mother was sharing to us her way of preparing the common Filipino food Vegetable Lumpia. What she taught us during that time was not the usual way of preparing it. It still tastes good and easy to prepare. All you need is 5 ingredients.
From that day onward, when I think of Vegetable lumpia, I chose her way of doing it.
Now this is how that version of Vegetable Lumpia is made.
Ingredients:
Sliced sayote (in strips)
Sliced cabbage (in strips)
Sliced carrots (in strips)
Sliced Cheese
Lumpia Wrapper (Spring roll wrapper)
With the vegetables inside, you can use other kinds too if you like. But these three are the most common ones. Some may ask , "How can that tastes good when in fact we did not put any salt or other seasonings?" The cheese will give its taste and flavor. Cheesy and a bit salty. 😊
The Procedures
1.-In a lumpia wrapper, arrange the carrots, cabbage, sayote and cheese. Wrap it and seal it using water.
2.-When done wrapping, fry the vegetable lumpia on medium to low flame so as not to burn it. Fry until golden brown.
3.-In a tray, allow the excess oil to drain and let it cool a bit then it is ready to serve.
This how to prepare this recipe. I give credit to the mother who shared this simple recipe to us. I've learned to prepare it for my family too and I am also sharing it maybe you also want to try it.
I have created a video and uploaded it in YouTube. You might want to see how I did it. I call it Vegetable Lumpia with a Twist!
It always good to learn something new specially when it comes to the food we prepare for our families. I hope you also learn something new here like what I did years ago and still applying it till now.
Thank you for keeping me company in the kitchen.
Until next time!
