Camping and Grilling Fun at Home

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY8 days ago

Before our kids' exams started last week, they told us they wanted to sleep in a tent after the exams. This was because Rex and Rez missed their school camping program this year as they were both sick at the time. So, I promised them I would camp with them, but the tent would only be set up outside our house. Depending on the weather, if it didn’t rain, we’d camp on the grassy ground outside. If it rained, we’d set up the tent on the porch, still outside the house. After the exams ended last week, I kept my promise. Besides the tent we bought before the school camping program, we also bought some chicken wings and tails to grill. We even got a new grill set.

When the sun went down, our camping activity began. Since it rained, we had to have our mini camping on the porch. Rex and Rez were excited to set up the new grill. Once they finished assembling it, I prepared the fire and started lighting the charcoal. I used a method of wetting tissue with cooking oil and lighting it. This creates a big flame, and the tissue doesn’t burn out quickly, helping to ignite the charcoal. It took some time to get the charcoal burning, but I finally got it going. While I worked on the fire, Rex and Rez set up the tent with some tips and guidance from me. They managed to do it successfully.

My wife had already marinated the chicken wings and tails earlier. As soon as the charcoal was ready, I started grilling the wings. We grilled just enough for the five of us. While waiting for the wings to cook, Rex, Rez, and Eiona played on their phones inside the tent. They sounded like they were having a great time. Rex even said he wanted to do this again next time!
