Hello dear Friends!

Hope you are all doing fine! We had a bad weather with freezing temperatures. In these last days, we even had a snow yesterday and to think it is already April, I should have been planting now in cointainers. But the sun came out today and so I went out to make errands. You know how it is if the skies are gray and all gray throughout the weekdays, frankly, I am used to the sun in my home country , the Philippines. I get winter depression here when it is gloomy outside and that is also the reason why we escape to Southern Spain because it is warmer there by at least 15°C.

Today, I am sharing an inspiring flower that is worth seeing because of its vivid colors. I got this outside the gate of a house where they were growing so wildly. The house is fronting the golf area and the lot is part of the sidewalk so it was on a public ground. I cut a couple of its vines and plant them in the garden in my former house. After a year, it started blooming and even had new growth. Once the vines touched the ground, they developed roots so they easily covered the whole ground. Perhaps you may want to plant this variety, it looks so pretty when the flowers are all blooming at the same time. Below are some facts and characteristics of this plant.

European Periwinkles (Vinca) Source

The Vinca genus contains several trailing, flowering plants. Some are evergreens and others are deciduous. They have simple, green leaves and produce delicate, five-petaled blooms throughout the growing season. European periwinkles produce trailing branches that take root where they touch the ground. As a result, they spread aggressively and should only be planted unfettered, in the ground where ground cover is desired.

Botanical Name: Vinca
Genus: Vinca
Colors: Violet to pale-blue
Growing Zones: 4 to 9
Where to Plant: Containers, hanging baskets, cottage gardens, ground cover, and natural gardens
Soil: Well-draining soil
Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade
Watering: Moderate to light watering
Feeding: Spring only apply a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer to the soil

I hope to find this plant in the garden center and if I could find one, a hanging basket would be perfect to let them cascade in my balcony.

Until then friends...see you around!

Thank you @zephalexia.

My mom used to have pink, white, peach and red varieties of that periwinkle but we don't have that purple shade here that makes your periwinkle blooms rare.
Thanks for sharing🌸

I love the color of this variety. They say this is a medicinal plants but I hav'nt tried it yet. Yes, I saw this kind as a hanging plant with different colors really pretty to hang in a balcony. Ahh, this could be planted with their vines? I really thought it have seeds.

Thank you so much for the encouragement.

I have a periwinkle but the common color of pink, you've got a rare color. I have read that the flower has a lot of medicinal properties including anti cancer.

Well, that´s good news, hopefully it does help at least maybe in prevention.

As I am a flower hunter wherever I go, this beautiful purple periwinkle was rare coz I haven't seen one. Nice shots Po @mers 💜💜💜
