SAN MARCELINO, ZAMBALES - Known as the Singkamas Producing Capital of Zambales and the "Home of the Juiciest Singakamas", this town will conclude its week-long town fiesta celebration on February 25 with its colorful Singkamas Festival grand parade.
It is a first-class municipality in the province of Zambales and in 2002, the Singkamas festival was launched culminating its culture every last week of February which coincides with the town fiesta of San Marcelino.
The municipality is home to Mapanuepe Lake formed after the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo.
On February 21, the DepEd was held in the Municipal Public Plaza which showcased talents in music and dance of elementary and high school students and teachers of DepEd and the Heads of Department of Education
Meanwhile, the LGU/Barangay Night and the Awarding of Huwarang Kabarangay were held on the night of February 21

The Wonder of San Marcelino,” the town fiesta commenced on February 19 with a Misa ng Bayan in the morning and an opening program in the afternoon held at the Municipal Public Plaza.
The weeklong festivity that started on Feb. 19 culminated on Sunday, Feb. 25, drawing thousands of people from different towns in the province and visitors across the country.
The street dancing competition was one of the highlights of the Singkamas Festival in San Marcelino, Zambales last Sunday, Feb. 25.
After two – years of suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Singkamas Festival, a celebration of the bounty harvest of singkamas in this town has made a comeback.
The centerpiece of the event was the street dance competition with contingents from seven local schools competing for the P100,000 prize for the festival championship, which was won by San Guillermo National High School.
Other activities in the festival included a grand civic parade, the Binibining San Mareline, a grand ball and balikbayan night, a music festival, and other shows.
On a normal day, vehicles would stop in the town proper, where all the sellers are lined up, to buy singkamas fresh from the fields in Barangay Linasin.
This festival is their way to acknowledge the singkamas vendors on their invaluable time and effort as they give credit to the whole community of San Marcelino.
"Singkamas" or (jikama), often known as a Mexican potato, is a root vegetable that resembles a bulb. Consider an onion with a ginger-like surface; nevertheless, the skin is simpler to peel.
Singkamas is a legume vegetable. It is also known as the yam bean. Yam beans may be eaten raw as a pleasant delicacy. It is commonly grown commercially.
The festivals have advantages such as promoting the local people's cultural heritage, advocating for the city, enhancing the number of tourists, building additional cultural entertainment opportunities for the local people, and improving the quality of life of the local people of San Marcelino.
It offers opportunities for participation, skill development, volunteer work, and social, cultural, economic, and environmental growth.
It is our creative means to honor our rich heritage, culture, and traditions. It is intended to celebrate key events and feelings in our lives with our loved ones. It plays a vital role in bringing order to our social lives and uniting us to our families and histories.

My husband's side are from San Marcelino. I have friends living in San Marcelino as well.
We usually buy singkamas just along the hiway Infront of the municipal hall. We've been to Mapanuepe as well by the very dusty dike... Haha.
Also on top of San Rafael overlooking the whole of San Marcelino, San Antonio and even Castillejos. The Solar farm can also be seen just behind the rocky hills of Bagang. Breath taking Ang views dun.
