A Visit to Renon Square in Denpasar, Bali

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY10 months ago

It has been quite some time since I visited Renon Square in Denpasar. In the past, I usually visited the square on Sundays with family. On Sundays, there would be a lot of people in the square, spending time with their families and running around the square. On a work day, there weren't as many people. However, Renon Square was much more peaceful this time.

The Museum Building in the Center of the Square

There is one building in the middle of the square that I can see as I walk around the square. This bell-shaped building is actually a museum called Bajra Sandi that showcases the struggle for independence of the Balinese people against the Dutch around 1945. The building is 45 meters high (inspired by the year 1945) meter high and surrounded by little trees.

The Trees for Shading

There are quite a lot of trees growing around the museum and along the jogging track that goes around the square. (This jogging track also intersects the square center in the museum area.). I assume these trees were planted to provide shade for people, as sometimes it gets very hot in this place. Besides providing shade for people walking along the jogging track, the trees also add to the beauty of Renon Square.

The People

As I mentioned before, there are not many people in the square on weekdays. On Sundays, you can probably easily see around 500 people walking around the square, spending time with their families. During this visit, however, I probably saw a maximum of 50 people, or even less.

In addition to the visitors, there are people who sell snacks, spring rolls, fruit, water, or sweet drinks. They sell these to people jogging around the square. I don't think they sold very well on the day I visited because there were fewer people compared to Sundays.

Then, there are people who have the job of cleaning the square. I met some people who sweep the leaves that fall from the trees. This is not a one-man task since the square is quite large.

Apart from people walking around the track, there are also those who go there to sit on the benches in the square. They listen to music, play with their phones, talk with friends or family, or just enjoy solitude. As for me, I walk around the square to fill in the time between my job as a tour guide and. I remember this place serving as a short escape from my daily duties.

The place is very perfect for a travel. There are lots of trees and a cool place because of the trees found in the place.
