This is just first of the year in 2023 but we got a lot of problems. My husband visa is expired already for last year but he can’t get the same visa for this year. It difficult to explain why, but I think my husband wrote in his post already.
Today, our family went to Phnom Penh to register a marriage according to the Khmer law. We used to get married according to the law of Suriname, but the Khmer state does not recognize it. If my husband wants to live in Cambodia without any problems, he must marry according to Khmer law.
For foreigners who marry Cambodians need four file, including, a single certificate, a birth certificate, a certificate of cleanliness from the police and a certificate of salary of $2,500. But my husband does not have a salary of $2,500. This is why we got married in Suriname.
But my husband said he would make a statement that he had a salary of $2,500, I do not know how he did it. Another problem that he had to go to the American Embassy was to ask for a single certificate, but he asked for it once in Suriname for married with me already. My husband thought that maybe the authorities would not let him for that paper, but he had to meet them and tell them all the reasons. And we hope the authorities understand our problem.
If American Embassy is okay and we have all files and we will take the documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior to apply for a marriage license registration in the commune where we live.
We so tired on the road but we arrived in Phnom Penh by safe now.
We don’t know yet how many days we are in Phnom Penh but we hope we can leave soon with the good news.
