Solo also has a distinctive flavour of food that tends to be sweet, similar to Yogyakarta, and one of the specialities that I will review is SELAT SOLO.
SELAT SOLO MBAK LIES
There are many restaurants that sell Selaat Solo, two of the most famous are: Selat Solo Mbak Lies, and Selat Solo Tenda Biru. Since my lodging was only one kilometre away from Selat Solo Mbak Lies, I decided to go there.
Selat is a pun on the word salad originally, but this Solo salad is far from what you'd imagine a fruit salad or vegetable salad to be. Selat Solo is generally made from beef and topped with other vegetables such as fried potatoes, boiled carrots, chickpeas, sliced tomatoes and lettuce leaves.
As for the protein, there are boiled eggs and beef. As for the broth, it tends to be sweet, like a broth mixed with brown sugar.
This was my first time trying selat, so I didn't have any expectations for the flavour. However, after tasting it, my assessment was that it was quite good, but not the type of flavour I like. Because I like savoury-salty flavours, whereas this was very sweet to my palate.
As for the drinks, I opted for the lime ice which was very refreshing to enjoy during the day.
One poorsi of this beef selat is 25,000 rupiah. According to my friend, it's a standard price, not expensive and not cheap. In addition to the seats, there are also other menus such as various juices, drinks, and snacks. Uniquely, each table in this stall has its own name which varies. I chose the GALIH and RATNA table. Galih and Ratna is a teen novel that is phenomenal because of its romance story. Hm... that means I'm enjoying the Solo Strait in a romantic setting. Hooho.
