Hello, Hive asean ...

It's been a long time since I uploaded a post in this community. And today I will share a story about a traditional food as well as its recipe.

Anyway, Hive ... do you guys have any traditional food/cuisine that is often present at an event? such as a big event or just a family gathering.

In my neighborhood there is food that is almost always made by mothers to entertain guests. His name is Semar Mendhem.

Actually, Semar Mendhem is called Lemper in other districts. And maybe even more versions of the name.

When we see from the name. Semar is a puppet figure with a fat body and Mendhem comes from the Javanese language which means drunk. Perhaps this is an allegory that illustrates that this food is so delicious that it makes Semar drunk (addicted).

Finished with the question of the name, let's go straight to the recipe and the process of making traditional food with the main ingredient of glutinous rice.

INGREDIENTS

  • Glutinous rice
  • Banana leaves
  • Coconut Milk
  • Toothpick
  • Unthi (Unthi is the content of semar medhem made from a mixture of grated coconut and brown sugar)
For content, unthi can also be replaced with shredded or fried chicken.

TOOLS

  • Steaming pot

STEP BY STEP

  • Glutinous rice is better soaked first for an hour to produce a softer quality of glutinous rice.

  • After draining, cook glutinous rice by steaming and flush with coconut milk little by litte. Cook for about 45 minutes until the texture of glutinous rice is soft.

  • Cooked glutinous rice is pounded briefly so that the texture is softer

  • Prepare toothpicks and banana leaves that have been cut

  • Take enough glutinous rice, then give unthi to fill, bungku with banana leaves and close with a toothpick.

  • Repeat as above continuously until completed.

  • When all is done, prepare a steaming pan.

  • Put Semar Medhem in the steamer,

  • Steam again for fifteen minutes until the leaves are brown.

Semar Medhem is ready to be served.

Eating Semar Mendhem on a rather cold afternoon with a cup of warm tea with your loved ones feels more delicious.

Thank you, Guys for coming and reading my blog. See you next time.
